Then it got a bit messy, as we had arrived quite late (friends are not quite as interested as me!) and so a lot of my "plan" ended up having sold out already. Ended up trying the Norwegian Whisky Association's first bottling, which is a 12yo Glendronach. Then had the standard release 18yo after that. A friend also got the 8yo, which I had earlier this week. It was interesting to be able to nose and taste together and see the evolution with age together. I ended with one of the Kavalan Solist ex-Bourbon Casks.
So this 12yr old Glendronach that was their first bottling, can it be bought and shipped back to the UK ?
Some of the young Glendronach is really very good indeed.
Tried the 8yo Hielan and it did nothing for me. The good lady drank that one.So this 12yr old Glendronach that was their first bottling, can it be bought and shipped back to the UK ?

Generally a fan of GlenD though. Enjoying the Green Welly Shop's 50th celebratory bottling at the moment.

You can buy various Glendronach bottlings from Master of Malt - https://www.masterofmalt.com/distilleries/glendron...So this 12yr old Glendronach that was their first bottling, can it be bought and shipped back to the UK ?

I have had several, Parliament is very nice and I have a 22 year old from 1991 left too but some of them can be slightly too sweet, too much sherry for me, but I know they are very popular and it's one of the best whiskies I've bought.

The 8yo Hielan was noticably sharper than some of the older expressions, but considering it's age I thought it was pretty decent, particularly how long the finish lasted for.Generally a fan of GlenD though. Enjoying the Green Welly Shop's 50th celebratory bottling at the moment.

You wouldn't have been able to get it shipped from Norway officially, but I could have sent one over/ taken back to the UK next time I am there. Sadly it sold out very quickly so is not available. It might pop up in some auctions in the UK soon though - there is quite a few people who seem to buy for selling abroad as investors. From what I've been told by some of the importers some of the releases are almost all bought up by foreign investors as there's not that big a demand for whisky over here (cognac is the big thing). Some of the young Glendronach is really very good indeed.
If you want to look for the Glendronach and have an idea of an ok price to pay it was sold for £76 (kroner is very weak now) and is called GlenDronach Single Cask 2003 Norsk Whiskyforbund (I also translated the details for you):
Age: 12 years
Destillert dato: 2003-03-11
Bottled: 2015-09
First "storage": 1st fill boubon barrel (200 l) Amerikansk oak
Transfered to Barolo-cask on the 2011-07-19, and given 4 years Barolo-finish: Barolo hogshead (250 l) Europeisk oak

So I was lucky enough to find a bar selling PvW (only the 10yr though if I recall) whilst in Melbourne over Christmas ($25 Aus per measure) and it was superb - I know PvW is as rare as hen's teeth (hence why the bar wouldn't sell me the bottle), but anybody got any suggestions as to where/how to locate a bottle?

If sending one over is really an option I would be massively grateful ! Two and I would be in heaven ? Edited by NRS on Monday 11th January 17:58
Happy to talk details in a PM, I'd cover all costs - goes without saying.
Thanks for translation - Barolo sounds very interesting.

I will be in Japan at the end of the month and in theory will buy some Japanese whisky over there. However it seems from reports that most Japanese stuff is gone very quickly and so it's generally only the standard stuff you get that you can get anywhere (Harmony etc). If it is the case I was thinking of getting some Scottish malts that are Japan only release. If I have space do you want me to pick up any of the Glendronach Japan only releases if I find any?
Well the (drinking part of the) collection took a bit of a battering when I was back in the UK. Highland Park Einar, Yamazaki Distiller's Edition and an English Whisky Company Distiller's Elect all disappeared within 10 days. I'm not proud but they were all good although I went camping with some friends and noticed that the Elect went really quickly. 'Oh, I mixed some with ginger beer. It was really nice mate' came the reply
I have just finished my Ardbeg Rollercoaster, which is one of my favourite Ardbegs, and I am now enjoying a Säntis Dreifaltigkeit. I am trying to drink the last couple of remaining bottles as I will be doing a dry couple of months in preperation for a couple of races over Easter.

Amathus import it from the US, you should try them. A bit late now but from October they normally get a shipment in of all PvW variants, i got a bottle of 10 y/o from them for about £125 last November, its great though i think a little too harsh for the money. They also had the 12, 18 and 22 y/o at that time. The only one i havent tried was the 12 y/o. I got wrecked on the 18 y/o in a steak house in San Francisco (someone else was paying) and i randomly found a bottle of 22 y/o in a bar in Belfast last year and ordered a couple of shots at £44 each - great Bourbons the pair of them, but the shelf price of bottles is way too much for me.
In my opinion i still prefer the spiciness that comes with a Rye and if you can find it a Sazerac 18 knocks PvW into a cocked hat.
Good luck with getting some bottles in.
I've decided I'd like to get into, or at least be able to drink/appreciate to a certain extent, whisky. The only problem is, I fking hate whisky. I've not drunk much, admittedly, but most I have tried have been undrinkable, including some recommended "starter" whiskies such as Monkey Shoulder. The only whisky I have ever vaguely liked was a Laphroaig I shared with a couple of friends a few years ago, but I've not had it since. Mentioned wanting to get into whisky to a friend, and whilst not a big whisky man himself he told me he enjoyed Lagavulin, then promptly bought me a bottle for my birthday. Having tried it a couple of weeks ago I was instantly reminded of Laphroaig, which led to a bit of googling and education on the Islay malts. I find the Lagavulin quite drinkable, and can see how I could acquire the taste. Clearly, I seem to favour peated whisky.
I'm interested in picking up another bottle or two to help me on my quest to acquire the taste, from Google there is an obvious contender in Ardbeg, I could grab a bottle of Laphroaig 10, or something slightly different like a Caol Ila or Highland Park. I've also seen that Asda carry a £20 own brand Islay malt that gets some good write ups. What would people recommend?
