Would I buy another, if available, - No. Its youth and freshness is good, but as you say, the depth of peat is not as we may like. A further update (after Nikka Pure Malt Black last night - yummy). The 'Day' has a new lease of life tonight - could it be the garlic stuff with tea, the dark chocolate before the dram. Don't think so. Half way down the bottle now and tonight it was kicking @ss. Corryvrekan maybe, or even some Supernova (that's a while back). Are we back to my arguments about Alligator - it changed quickly with air, in the glass and the bottle. Maybe the half bottle of air is adding some Ardbeg to the Ardbeg ?

You are right. I tried it at a shop here on Ardbeg day and saw them pouring samples about 30 minutes before the shop opened. I managed to try some after about an hours wait and it was fantastic. After opening the bottle at home it did taste thin but with some breathing time I found it was quite like the SN 10 release with a bit of the Blasada thrown in and a cheeky 17yo fruitiness was evident. So, whenare the casks going to be ready?

Anyone near Skipton this Saturday afternoon ??
Stuart Buchanan - ex Benriach manager and now Brand Ambassador - is doing some informal tastings in the shop there.
Its about 70 miles each way for me - what an excuse - chauffeur sorted for the return leg. Have my eye on the 'Double Barrel' bottling - Macallan and Laphroig - which I tried whilst at the Speyside festival. I have a habit of leaving though with enough bottles to secure a discount.

You didn't 'buy a cask'. You secured an investment opportunity.

Small question Craig.
How many casks do you have now ?
Explaining may be difficult - serious negotiation sounds like the order of the day.
At least I only have a small investment in a number of very fine casks - AND THEY ARE NOT READY YET

What 'she' knows about. : Two (both part shares with mates) That 'she' doesn't know about : Two (part share in a PH one and now a Bruichladdich). None of which are ready although the Bruich was bought to align with me planning to retire so it's a bit of a long term project.

I got a bottle Penderyn for fathers day. Very different from my usual tastes and tastes a little young. But very fruity and an easy drink.

Mate of mine popped up the other week over from Switzerland, so out of our limited local shop picked up a bottle of this. Absolutely lovely.

Wadeski said: wtf is JW Platinum?? I'm guessing an 18year old. I left the two JW at work so just the Kilchoman & Dewars tonight. To think I turned down Dewars 18, Green Spot & Red Breast as well!

Ha, I should probably be more up to date on these things, but I've been swotting up on tequila here in the US more than I have on scotch lately. I liked johnny green & gold best out of the JW range, so I'm interested to try this one.

I'm starting to stock pile JW Green (all be it very slowly!), but I think Compass Box's Great King Street is a good successor to it, and very reasonably priced! To be honest, I'm actually wondering what to do with my whisky at the moment. I have a couple of 'collectables' but mostly it's generic stuff I've bought on offer to drink at some point. Thing is, I'm buying quicker than I'm drinking! There's nothing too exciting there for the most part (e.g. Dalwhinnie 15, Jim Beam Rye, Compass Box Orangerie), so what to do? Give it away? Sell? Say I'm definitely, definitely, definitely not buying any more whisky, and avoid Borough market?

Just a quick little question for you all. What must I do whilst on Islay apart from distillery tours and drink? Places to see, specific bottlings to buy etc.

Pete Jura - do not miss it out. In fact I would say it deserves two days - distillery and all day breakfast over the road at the hotel is half a day gone. How long are you there for and in which area are you staying Pete ? You need to head out to the peninsula's - past Ardbeg is one of my favourites beauty areas. Do you like (feathered) birds ? The nature reserve or eagle spotting. Don't try going to the Co-op on Sunday morning - everyone is at home pretending they are at Church - but get in the queue early for opening time. And remember - wave at all passing drivers - you need to fit in as you go from distillery to distillery - or other place of interest. And are you flying over from the new headquarters of the EU , or driving ? I haven't yet managed to add those extra few miles down to Campbeltown - maybe next time.
