Picked this up at the distillery last week. Tonight I opened it. I think I've discovered my perfect dram. Although I might have to have another to verify my findings...

Ended up going to Gleneagles on Saturday with Miss T, so bought a bottle of the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ryer Cup.

It's my understanding that it's just Blue Label, but in a fancy bottle?

I was up at the HAC last night, for the International Spirits Challenge awards.

Trophy Winners were:

The Glenlivet Nadurra
The Balvenie Thirty
Grant's Aged 8 Years
Invergordon Single Grain 50th Anniversary Bottling
Hibiki Japanese Blended Whisky Aged 21 Years
Glory Leading 30 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (only available in Taiwan)

I got to sample the Glenmorangie Ultimate (38 y/o) and the Hakushu Single Malt Whisky, 25 year old

I preferred the latter, it was sublime. Sadly all the Trophy winners were already emptied by the time I got around to tasting.

It's lovely. I have had a stinker of a cold for the last two and a half weeks and had no taste. I drank a fair bit of the Nadurra last night when I realised I could taste again.

How long does a bottle of whisky 'last' once opened. I realise that it's quite an ambiguous question and that it could vary a lot between whiskies, environment etc. I ask because I have a bottle of Balvenie 15 that has been on the go for over a year now. The last dram I had from it tasted a bit crap and I was wondering why this was.

It will change with the air - and the more air in the bottle, the more it will change.

Personally, I find that after 3 months there is a noticeable difference to whisky. I read about the changes once, and as we get through quite a bit, I saved a bit each month to compare :geek:

Keeping it in a dark place (e.g. a cupboard) helps apparently.

I think I've read somewhere that after around 1/2 the bottle it starts changing pretty quick. But depends on the time, which one it is etc.

Believe it or not - The Whisky Shop - £90 ! Should be collecting tonight, if not tomorrow.

They had 4 in stock, ordered one and five or so minutes later, sold out.
