Talikser 10 is up for £27 a bottle in Morrisons, until 15th March.

Thats a darn good price in todays world. Talisker 10 has to be the biggest bang per buck in the whisky sphere. A cracking dram in that price range.

It does vary a bit over the years, but Serge Vallentin reckons its unrivalled in its segment. Have to agree, always a safe recomendation when people ask "what whisky shall I buy?" . Best not say too much as Diageo will be shafting the price up biggrin

Couldn't agree more.
I popped down to Morrisons to get a bottle, and their shelf prices and till prices were still registering it as £32.99.
I had to show them the website offer to get the price reduced, and there was a bit of reluctance, but got there in the end.
Fantastic bottle for that price.
Just waiting until they apply the same deal on Ardbeg 10 ;-)

I had this at asda when aberlour 10 was on offer, they told me i would have to do a click and collect to get that price, would have to come back the next day but failed to mention that the minimum click and collect amount was more than the price of the whisky. Went to sainsburys instead!

It wasn't a dig! Have a look on masters of malt and whisky exchange. Upside is you can buy testers so you don't need to take a massive punt on a whole bottle of something you've not tried. Supermarkets are getting better but they aim for the masses.
didnt think that was a dig in the slightest smile I'm quite new relatively speaking in the whisky world and am picking things up as i go along. I even read all 300+ pages of this forum, filled some lunch hours!
cool smile my advice - go peaty!

May be posting about this distillery a bit much, but it's been very interesting to see how things progress in a small distillery over time. If you want to see how things progress in the small volume side of the whisky industry this is quite an interesting video to watch (you need facebook).

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=3163680785614...

It's interesting seeing them experimenting too. For example these two samples with very different colours after a very short time. Both 5l barrels, but the one on the left is heavily roasted American oak for 50 days, compared to a 35 day old medium roasted French Oak barrel.

It's just fun following them and seeing what goes on, not just drinking the stuff!

it's Ardbeg's 200 year anniversary celebrations on Saturday 30th May, for anyone who's up Islay way then... I am!

I've had several of them - very nice. It's way, way above the rest of their range, there's no comparison really. The Glengoyne 10 is really not very nice and the 18 is only marginally better. The 21 is pleasant enough (on a par perhaps with a £80 Macallan 12 year fine oak for example) but the 25 is really in a different league. It's quite sweet and clearly very sherried so you need to like this kind of whisky. There's no peat at all and no smoke. It's full of flavour but in a very smooth, balanced way - some of the Glendronachs are a tad too sweet, the 22 year old 1991 (I think, from memory) is really too sweet. The balance is quite exquisite - the nose is soft and full of fruit, the taste is deep and rich with no "sulphur" and no hardness from too much wood or spice, everything melds together beautifully and the finish is long and moderately spicy.

My fiancée likes it and she's not a whisky drinker ! I've got about a fifth of a bottle left for my birthday in a few days and I'll certainly be ordering another, it's the only whisky over £200 which I feel comfortable enough buying on a regular basis.
Ordered a taster today, £15 so looking forward to it.

I guess there'll be some special bottling(s) coming out for it. Anyone know anything?

Wow very cool!

I am sailing into Oban on the 26th, and planned to make my way back down to Islay for the festival, and looks like I will have to stay around for a few days until the 30th!

They're keeping it secret if so, but I'd be very surprised if not! I'll be getting some for sure.

According to the committee note on the back label on each of the links above they all taste the same. I take it its design rather than content they are seeking approval for?

I am under the impression that the Whisky in the five bottles is the same, but cant confirm if this is the case or not.

The "PERPETUUM" is listed as 47.4% alcohol compared to the rest at 49.2%. So there might be something different in that one, smile

Heads up for those who have a local Costco, I picked up a bottle of Lagavulin 16 for just over £39 incl VAT, also Johnnie Walker Double Black for less than £25 incl VAT. Can't remember exact prices sorry, just that I couldn't resist!

Tobermory 10 currently only £24 in Sainsbury's. Quite cheap for a very drinkable malt.

Bought a bottle of this a few weeks ago on the recommendation of the 2015 Whisky Bible . . . have to say it's really, very nice.

https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/glen-grant/g...
(Old Malt Cask Glen Grant 18 year old, cask 9920)

Jim Murray gives it a score of 94.5 which is pretty high and it's got a beautiful nose, very delicate, light and fruity. The taste is very balanced, a lot of barley but it's still refined and full of deep fruit. I still have difficulty with cask strength whiskies, can't usually drink 55%+ at all without water but this at 50% is so refined it's easy to drink with just a gentle warming in the finish.

There's only 178 bottles and I'd recommend it highly if, like me, you're looking to try some whiskies which Jim Murray rates very highly.
