Port & brandy.

There is no substitute.

Unless it's a good Margarita:

Dip the rim of the glass in lime juice, then salt
One measure of tequila
1/4 measure of Cointreau
Dash of fresh lime juice
and shake

I like to keep mine simple - makes it easier when you've had oneseveral too many wink

One that was inspired by a stupid 'student night' offer is triple gin & lemonade... Deadly, but the lemonade takes the nasty edge off the gin biggrin

right, another goodie of which I've just had two:

you need a shaker (or jamjar),
ice
juice of half a lemon
handful of mint
2 tsp sugar
handful of blueberries
75cl good gin like hendrick's (a very generous slug or two)

put the sugar, lemon juice and mint into a shaker and give it a decent stir.

add the ice and gin and shake the hell out of it for a minute.

strain into a tumbler full of ice cubes and put a couple of mint leaves in.

if you liked the Gin Basil Smash, you will love this smile
And because Wadeski loves it so much hehe he did not tell us about them blueberries...
in the shaker or in the tumbler????

The Flatliner:

Take a large shot glass
Fill to half way with tequila
Carfully then fill to the top with sambucca (the two spirits should remain separate if poured carefuly)
Then drip tabasco sauce into the top - it will sink through the sambucca and form a red disc on top of the tequila - voila the Flatliner

Drink as a shooter and repeat until the power of speech/movement leaves you (can verify that this does not take very many).

we used to do the dirty dozen during lock-ins in the Steam Tavern at Bristol

flat liners were the worst out of the twelve closely followed by the curdled bailey's

The speciality of my local student / dog-on-a-rope pub was 'snaky' made from Special Brew, Diamond White plus a double Pernod and blackcurrant.

I'm ashamed to admit that I tried it.

1 x kaluha
1 x vodka (not Kirov etc, it spoils it)
1 x Baileys
2 ice cubes
adna splash of milk - top white russian there.

I also like the occasional black russian, even though I'm not sure I make it right..

kaluha, vodka (double), coke. Lush.

And the, of course are the "lets et pissed" daft cocktails:

Cheeky Vimto - 1/2 pint port, 1/2 pint blue WKD

Loopy Juice - 4 shots vodka, 1 x hooch / vk / whatever, ice in a pint glass. Lethal.

Daquiri:

45 ml Rum, (Cockspur 12 being my favourite for this)
Juice of a whole lime,
2 teaspoons of sugar.

Shake over ice and serve straight up.

Bramble:

25 ml Gin,
15 ml lemon juice,
15 ml sugar syrup,
15 ml Creme de Mure.

Build over crushed ice in an old-fashioned glass and add the creme de mure last so that is looks like blood percolating down into the rest of the drink. Garnish with a blackberry.

1 measure of Kahlua
1 measure of Sambuca
1 measure Blue Curacao
1 measure Baileys
In a large Martini glass add the Kahlua and Sambuca. Fill 2 shot glasses, one with Blue Curacao and the other with Baileys. Light the Kahlua and Sambuca with a match, hand the drinker a straw drink and tell them to drink the cocktail in one. When they have nearly reached the bottom put out the flame by adding the Blue Curacao and Baileys and tell them to finish off the drink.

WARNING:- Don't set fire to yourselfyikes
It's Galliano instead of Kahlua round my way. The Sambuca is lit in a seperate glass then poured into the Galliano so it mixes and continues to burn.

from my student days - i give you 'Broth'

1 bottle vodka
1 bottle dry cider
blackcurrant cordial or vimto to taste.

mix all the above in one big pot - doesn't matter that it is but i find a casserole dish, a pan, or a large vase does this drink the full justice it deserves.

its a drink to share, and you must 'doth the broth' [kiss the receptacle against your forehead' before drinking.

on a classier note, the simplest/nicest cocktail i;ve ever had was at the opening of the japanese arts centre in manchester:

l large measure glenfiddich
ginger ale
1 large slice fresh ginger
1 large slice fresh red chilli
1 squeezed wedge of lime

very refreshing, and the longer you leave it the more potent the chilli kick - an excuse to drink quickly.

Used to spend quite a lot of time in one cocktail bar which resulted in the manager leaving one till on happy hour prices just for my party. I'd never tried drinking more than three in one evening until I was in there at about five in the afternoon with a mate and two girls came over, intrigued by this most splendid of refreshments. Fast forward two hours and the four of us are walking arm in arm doing "The Monkees" walk whilst singing the theme tune and generally being refused admittance to every drinking establishment in the city. party

Silver Mercedes:

Vodka
Triple Sec
Cranberry Juice
Carefully topped up with champagne.
Drink it through a straw so it starts off dry due to the cranberry but gets drier and drier as you reach the champagne. Lovely, if like myself you enjoy your dry drinks.

Sounds great, why Glenfiddich in particular though? My immediate thought was that you might want something a bit lighter and less sweet or is the fiddich a particularly good combination?

Apparently i took on a challenge of "free booze" if i drank 5 of them .... i won ... but could not drink another drop.

Mental note for future, ensure such bets also allow free drinking the next night too!!!
