Was away over the weekend and at a pub for brekki expecting a big old meal and I was told they don't do beans!

Disgusted.

Eggs are where it's at. I have three or four scrambled in butter most mornings - about the quickest and easiest breakfast there is. Supermarket and even local butcher's sausages and bacon aren't great, so unless I've been to the farm shop I just have the eggs, although I'll often chop up an avocado to go with - incongruous maybe, but seem to complement each other nicely.

I went through a phase of having 2 eggs poached in the microwave on 2 slices of brown bread (no butter) during the week. Very quick, tasty and a dam sight healthier than a bowl of frosties!

I love poached eggs. The simplicity of having hens & ducks & fresh eggs to poach each day can't be beaten.

Though having a hen sit on several eggs for a month only to discover they're not fertile isn't a pleasant experience... vomit

The chickens are not laying at the moment. Had to resort to supermarket eggs :-( Gave up trying to poach them properly, switched to frying.

Scrambled hens' eggs for my wife and little boy, fried duck egg for me.

With spaghetti hoops for the first time in twenty years.

They tasted metallic.

No photo as no free hands what with feeding him and myself simultaneously.

And it's just beaten egg, nothing added at all. In a bowl, into the microwave, cook until the edges start to set, then break the edges up with a fork and stir well. Repeat until eggs are 90% firmed up but still very slightly undercooked. On serving they will be perfect.

Mrs Basherx is away for the weekend so something special was called for. Muffin, egg, bacon, sausage patty and hash brown. You know the drill. All cooked by my fair hand.

I have a renewed love for poached eggs but the supermarket eggs aren't cutting it. I reckon I'm only getting one in three good ones.

No farm shops that close to me either!

If you *have* to get supermarket eggs go for the Cotswold Legbar (from Clarence Court), my personal favourite, or the Burford Browns. Waitrose usually stock them and my local Sainsbury's do too. Grab some which have the furthest best-before date you can find. Finally test each one before deciding to poach (plop into a glass of water and hope it sinks & stays level/level-ish). I've had pretty good reliability that way.
