I had lunch with a friend a couple of days ago.

When the main courses arrived, she got out her phone and exclaimed, "Ooh! I really must take a photo of my meal!"

She then proceeded to click away.

Being a gentleman of some refinement *, I couldn't bring myself to ask her, "What the fk are you doing you silly woman?"

Instead, I just smiled indulgently and tried not to catch the eyes of our fellow diners for the rest of the meal.

My questions are straightforward.

Why on Earth would anyone take a photo of their food? Who would do such a thing? Are you one of these people? Do you collate the photos and show the best ones to your friends? How about posting a photo of your favourite starter?

Simply put.

What the fk is this all about?

* I have no refinement whatsoever.

I have in the past taken pics of interesting meals like giant pork skewers etc.

Also took a pic of a very tasty dirty kebab I had after a night out to send to my gf to impress her hehe

Well, you must have some, because you don't go taking photos of your meals when out at a restaurant.

If it is in a nice restaurant then it can be beautifully presented, elsewhere it may be something odd you have never seen before as food, roast Guinea Pig for example.

Then what do you do with the photo? Invite the neighbours round for a viewing?

Wonder if she photographs the contents of the pan after. Kind of a before and after thing?

I only take photos for the "Photo of your dinner" thread; it has been interesting to see what (relatively wink) normal people cook for themselves each day. By and large it has been quietly cheering to see that many people make an effort to cook and eat good food. And knowing I'm going to "snap" it also gives me reason to put some thought into presentation, which goes down well with SWMBO.

But doing so in a restaurant is pretty much "nutter", IMO.

And the world is now officially mental.........

Unless she was going to open a Kebab shop or down market take-away and needed some photos like these in the top right of the picture?

Blimey Eric, when I saw that you'd posted I feared that you belonged to the 'photo my meal' mob.

What in the name of all that is holy have I come across here ?

Pictures.

Of Food.

WTF ?

No, really, what ?

I am with the OP here, why the hell would you bother and what could possibly be gained by it ?

If you are a chef doing a cookbook then fair play, if you are a photographer and you are doing a set to illustrate some poncy sunday suppliment then ok, if you are on PH showing off a bit then its marginal to be honest but since its christmas and there is a certain level of nonsence here anyway i will let it slide but a normal person out for food snapping their meal is insane.

If you do it you need testing for holes in your brain, right now.

The food is not on my plate long enough for the camera to focus

Interestingly my moped riding mung bean eating neighbour thinks that as I have 5 cars I have holes in my brain and that I should be strung up for crimes against the planet. Good job someone came up with the phrase "each to their own".
