Have a look here - then refer to all the info on the 'Show us your whisky' thread!

Im a staunch Islay fan (currently anyway) so not best placed to give any more constructive advice unfortunately.

Lefty 2 Drams and a couple of the other chaps are your men to ask!

It's not your standard speyside fayre though...

Like Dom, I'm very much into Islay at the moment but still have a fair few speysiders on my shelf...

Cardhu, Mortlach (try the 16yo flora and fauna) or Balvenie are my favourite stills from the region.

How about a premium blend like JW green? Amazing whisky for the price...

Slainte!

Having developed a real taste for single malts in the last year or so, I'm with the above with regard to Islay taking my preference, though Speyside is what I'll choose next.

Currently have open 2 Islays; a Caol Ila 12, and an Ardbeg 10. Initially had a hard time picking a favourite, but through diligent pallate work, I'm now in the Ardbeg camp; it is wonderful stuff, though it is so wonderfully peaty, I had to acquire a taste for it at first.

The Speysides I have open are a lovely Aberlour A'bunadh, and Balvenie doublewood. I can heartily recommend both.

I hope to discuss my findings with all you keen malt fans in the whisky thread in the not too distant future. Problem is, now I live in the US, good scotch is damn expensive!

Doublewood is very drinkable but slightly bland imo. I've lost my bottle though (left at someone's house when merry I think). It is nice but not very interesting.

Aberlou 10yo is really good and you can comfortably get 2 bottles for your £40, so everyone's a winner! smile

Old thread resurrection!

My OH loves Speyside malts. I'd like recommendations for something special I can buy her up to £125.
Any ideas (I'm a bit useless when it comes to single malts)

Last time I did this, I bought her a 1969 Longhorn and she loves it and has got through about 2/3 of the bottle over a few years.
Something of a similar quality is what I'm after.

TIA!

No, but obviously has a lot more willpower then myself biggrin

And when I checked the price of that Longhorn now, it's up to £700-£800, so when I tell her that she'll probably make the rest of it last her lifetime!

I've gone and bought her the 16 yr old Mortlach as it seems to get very good reviews.

I'm not a massive Speyside fan or so I thought until I tried these

Glenlivet Nadurro - https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-27523.aspx it's just beautiful

Glendronach 15 https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/glendronach/...

They just seemed to evaporate whilst my other malts were untouched

ETA didn't notice date of OP but will leave these recommendations for the more budget conscious of us.

This Speyside whisky is superb - a 17yr old Benriach

It was one of the whiskies at the recent PH whisky tasting night, and I was of several who have bought at least one..
