Nipped to Waitrose this afternoon.

Absolutely rammed with quality fanny.

I simply don't care if Asda is cheaper.

Was any of it on offer? Fnar fnar.

I'll stock up from Ocado (Waitrose food) once a month, mainly chicken breasts, pork, veg.. anything I can freeze and use as and when. I'll drop of at Waitrose during the week for fridge stock. It certainly tastes better than cheaper food and the service is exceptional, plus.. with the 15% off vouchers they keep sending me it actually works out as cheap, if not cheaper, than the big four. Win win.

Why don't they send me 15% off vouchers? They bloomin' well should after selling me some awful potted crab last week.

Personally I use Waitrose because I think its a nicer place than any other supermarket (if any supermarket can be nice). Yes it may cost a bit more, but it has decent sized parking spaces, the aisles appear wider and therefore less crowded, the staff appear to be genuinely helpful and it stocks a decent range of quality products. That makes my trip to the supermarket a little nicer which, in my opinion, is worth paying for.

As a bonus, as previoously mentioned by others, there's generally a decent quality of housewife about the place. Which is nice.

What are you on man? You pick your own food up, go to the till and give it to a malnourished teenager who scans it then you pack it. In what possible world is that any different to another supermarket.

"the stores are less rammed" because there's bugger all in them, even the large ones have a woeful selection, and seem to concentrate all efforts on the wine section (nothing wrong with that, but at least have some selection)

"they're clean" I've never been to a dirty supermarket, with the exception of Lidl in Kingston, the sainsburies in my local town is far cleaner and sensibly laid out than the waitrose.

I think some of you are just trying to justify it to yourselves. Or maybe you live somewhere where the poor are poor and the others are full of proper scum....

Apologies for grammar fail, on iphone

From Ocado.. the service is great..
The food comes in different colour bags depending on where it goes.. fridge, cupboard, freezer.. and because I tend to have it delivered late in the evening and I can just dump the bags in the respective area and deal with it all in the morning. Plus.. the guy will even carry the bags to your kitchen rather than dumping them on your doorstep.. like on the one occassion I used Asda.

The cost one is interesting. I use Mysupermarket.com which shows you how much your shopping costs in each of the delivery supermarkets, and then you just submit the trolley to them using the same site. Usually Ocado comes out a good bit more (about a tenner) but occasionally it's cheaper - depends if you've got any of their offers in your basket.

What they do usually have though are better delivery slots though, and as has been said, the quality is great. I usually get a weekly email offering 10-15% off for delivery on a Tuesday or a Wednesday so long as you spend over £75, which we do every other week.

We're lucky though, our village has two good butchers and a great local veg shop, so we get most of that kind of stuff from them. certainly the meat is superb quality but it does cost a little bit more - we've started having more veggie meals to compensate for it though.

We pay the £9.99 a month for all the deliveries we want with Ocado, as long as they are over £40. We tend to only have one a week still, but when sainsbury's are charging £5.99 a pop, that's £24-£30 a month! So our deliveries are now £2-£2.50 each, and we get a priority at Christmas.

Second - how frightfully nice the punters, sorry clientele were. Nothing like striking up a bit of light banter over the truffle oil.
So it's a good place to make out with posh birds? wink
Well the one I occasionally go in seems to be frequented by a fair selection of very comely WAGS dressed in not much during the summer months. If I went into ASDA and saw somebody wearing a similar amount of clothing I would need mind bleach. (Complete and prejudiced generalisation)

Expensive? agree
Interesting choice? agree
Maybe it's the local one but I've given up buying fresh fruit and veg there. Looks nice(ish) on display but seems to go off quickly.

The lengths people will go to on this forum to come across wealthy and above the day to day life of millions is astounding.
Not just this forum. Mate of the Mrs was doing some sort of door to door survey. Gobsmacked at the number of people who answered the question which supermarket they used as "Well actually I use Tesco, but put me down as Sainsbury's as I wouldn't want anyone to think I shopped at Tesco"

wtf??!!

Off topic, anyone agree with me that Sainsbury's has lost the plot on fresh fruit and veg quality? Or is it just our store, gone down the nick for about a year or so, thus not a short term blip.

Must be a store thing because whilst agreeing with the Tesco thing, SAinsbury's and Morrison are the other way round by us. And Mrs has connections with Sainsbo's.

I'd entirely agree concerning Morison's, horrendous Veg. Havibng said that, I very rarely buy veg from a supermarket anymore, plenty of small traders out my way.

Funnily enough, I'd agree on that. The Co-op seems to be the worst when it comes to employing gormless half wits.

Unfortunately, it could well be down to the siting of their respective shops.

The shop will be sited where its target demographic live and will presumably also draw its staff from the same area.

Why have I now got this mental image of Waitrose briefing a market survey company.

Which would explain why any kind of supermarket shopping in basingstoke is a painful painful event.
