In the spirit of the good food channel, I'd like to present my top 5 PH food heroes (in no particular order)

1) Cotty - needs no introducing. His portions are legendary and he's famed for no nonsense 'mancooking'
2) Cactussed - FoodHeads - Presentation Matters. This man could be a professional chef if his food tasted even half as good as it looks
3) Zakawele - Adventurous, not shy of bucking the typical PH trend where only the finest of the fine will do - his love of filth is impressive. His PH pasta was the scariest thing i've ever seen on a plate and also, possibly, anywhere. I still have nightmares.
4) Mobile Chicane - Again adventurous, I love the foraging aspect of what she cooks. How many of us would honestly collect our own snails, leave them to excrete all the toxins then cook them up? Not many I suspect. The female HFW to my mind. Excellent blog.

Last but not least:

5) Don - Everyone loves chicken wings but quite honestly, my reason is simply his excellent roast pork belly recipe. What can I say? It did it for me.

Feel free to nominate yours.

I am glad you said in no particular order as I should not be No.1. in fact I don't think I would make the top 10 compared to the efforts of some on the cooking competitions threads. Cactussed presentation and food is stunning (I even bought a new table cloth and no one noticed frown). Mobile Chicane's imagination regarding ingredients has to be up there.

Agree with MC's nomination of 'Papoo' for his services to BBQ bow

You're too kind!

I agree with the OPs nominations. MC apparently has a hilariously vast knowledge on...how do I put this...sustainable eating??; the snails, the shrooming etc. Alongside having a recipe for pretty much anything asked. It's most enlightening

Cotty; what can I say. Hero. Look forward to Q'ing you something some day. Perhaps at a meet when I'm in the UK. I want to see what you're really capable of hehe. I actually have lots of respect for your cooking; too many people drone on about how it's too difficult to cook for one etc...as their drowning their tastebuds in a Bombay Bad Boy. I genuinely admire that. (I'm assuming you cook for one; to cook that much for two, you'd have to be Lloyd Blankfein)

Zakelwe just makes me laugh out loud. I envision some kind of nutty professor in the kitchen, always trying his hand at something outside the box. Currently a great fan of his persuit for the perfect steak. Heaven only knows how much steak he's gone through in the last few weeks.

Pferdestarke and Calibrax both deserve a mention, in my opinion. Always has knowledge on hand, and they both post up corking pictures with recipes.

I, on the other hand, should be removed from said list. Whilst I'll modestly admit to knowing my way around low 'n slow coals, my repertoire is pretty limited, in tune with what competition BBQ demands - pork ribs, beef ribs, brisket, pulled pork etc. Problem is, they're all really bloody addictive.

Looking forward to discussing Q this summer, when you all make the PH Foodie's obligatory investment in Weber!

My goodness! Thank you.

I'll say I thoroughly enjoy everyone's excellent contributions and it's certainly opening my eyes to new recipes and giving me a new enthusiasm for good food.

Cry me a river, Don! My (dear) wife has..what's the word.."volunteered" me to give up pretty much anything nice for lent. I can only assume it's because reading this and a BBQ form I'm a member of has made me a good 10 pounds more 'substantial'.

bds.

Jeez, thank you. Am blushing a little. smile

Been a little absent of late, due to doing this!

But, I shall be back in the kitchen around mid-March, after a brief trip home to see the family in Oz.

There are so many to mention and people have done so above, but mine are:

Don
Cotty (I hear you are 12 stone, not 22?)
Mobile Chicane
Zakelwe
Pappoo
Catcussed

There are more but I cannot remember your aliases. You know who you are!

Suffice to say that I frequent this section of the forum as often as I do my online banking and emails.

I have two now. A rather large weber kettle that I shall probably try to set up as a smoker type thingy and a small rectangular version that will be for grilling.

Really looking forward to it thumbup

And another vote, I read them all the time, although rarely contribute (compared to other areas wink).

Am also in complete agreement with your top5 biggrin
