Had a KFC recently, it was £11 for two meals and a popcorn chicken - which was I kid you not in about a 2" square thing, was hardly even worth trying to eat... And the drinks now are bottled?

I know it's my own fault for going to a McKFC etc. but still, it never used to be over a tenner...

£11 is a veritable bargain. Dominos wanted £18 for a pizza and chicken wings, so refused to use them at that price smile

Did you stop off at a service station? KFC prices in the 'restaurants' are still the same.

Drive through.

As for Pizza, we can order a 14" pizza (which for us is two meals) plus chips and garlic bread for £16 delivered....

Pizzas have to be the biggest con - £10 for a disk of bread with some cheese and tomato sauce on it.

Exactly. You could make better yourself for a quarter of the cost.

Make a big batch of dough and freeze it in batches, wrapped in cling film.

Bung one in the fridge of a morning, and it will be defrosted and ready to use by the time you get home.

Ready in 15 minutes...

Don't have room in the freezers, and we have three of them (one is for fish food though). We buy our meat from a butcher in bulk so often have 3 chickens and 2 legs of lamb, and a joint of pork and beef or two as well in the freezers, and they take up a lot of room!

Plus can you ever make it taste like the Pizza place? Even re-heating it from frozen it doesn't taste as nice.

Fast food is just that. Fast.

What it isn't is cheap, healthy or especially nice in alot of cases. You are paying for the convenience. Or laziness.

At work we used to have KFC quite reqularly as a Friday treat. We now go and buy freshly cooked chickens and enjoy half a chicken each with rolls, butter and coleslaw/relish/mayo etc.

Not only is it much healthier, it is more satisfying, less than half the price and no less convenient running out to get a pack of rolls and two cooked chickens than it is going to KFC.

I fry my own chicken at home alot of the time anyway on the rare occasion I do want some fried filth.

I also can't remember the last time I ordered a pizza that wasn't ordered purely to fill the bellies of a room of blokes who had been playing poker and drinking all evening. And even then it was only because it was BOGOF.

Also, I think the worst for food got smaller and expensive is Burger King.

A half decent size meal is now bordering the wrong side of £6 and it really isn't anything special...

Good posts there, bazking.

Def. not worth it at those prices - half time doesn't seem to fill you up either (or if it does - you're hungry again before long).

Better off making something fresh yourself, it's not that much of an effort.

I only eat KFC/Pizza Hut/Dominos et al because I get paid to.

If I actually had to fork out money to eat there, I wouldn't bother.

Indeed! I did some advertising with Pizza Hut (my logo on their flyers) i was chatting with the Manager, apparently net cost for a 12" Pizza to them is £1.25 you do the maths

Agreed. Or time which I don't always have enough of to prepare a meal. Or if we are out and about and it's dinner time etc....

I just wasn't expecting it to be THAT expensive for a "meal" for two, and I don't remember it being that expensive before...

Is that just ingredient cost or does it include overheads? If so, scary.

IMHO that's gotta be the dough, fruity base and loose scattering of meaty stuff. 10 mins labour at minimum wage for a server and cook would cost £1.20 on top...

Well, the bottom line is that food has a heck of a mark up on it. A friend is a chef and the prices they pay for food is amazing - then you contrast it to the price they charge. That is just business though really is it not? I mean, they are there to make money and pay for the rent, electricity, staff costs etc...

I don't mind a mark-up, I do mind a stark increase in prices for no good reason.
