food is great but the restaurant itself isn't anything special, david collins did a great job at LL which is why I prefer it

not too sure if L'Anima will be busy on the w/e though - I've only been for lunch during the week

A couple more alternatives....

Have had a good meal at Sardo Canale which is in Primrose Hill... Was a while ago though. They also have a sister restaurant called Sardo but not eaten there. It is a bit closer to Mayfair though.

Assaggi in Westbourne Grove always used to be great, though have heard a few more mixed reviews more recently.

That looks fantastic, particularly the wine list. Never seen that much Gaja on offer before!

oh, and avoid Cecconi's in Mayfair. Outrageous prices, average food.

Ditto... For Italian I'd go to Scalini In Knightsbridge, not that much further away, but also more 'foodie' less 'be seen'...

Does it have to be Italian?, you have 2 amazing places in Mayfair, Scott's and Corrigan's Mayfair...

On this occassion is does, however having visited London twice in the past six months without so much as a hint of getting shot, we'll be regular visitors in the future and will have a look at those places. Thanks.

Didn't know you ventured down here.

Can I interest sir in a brief jaunt west of London for his aural pleasure?

I'd struggle to sell that to the missus!

Covent Garden - Maggiores (possibly badly spelt there)

Excellent.
I have to endorse this. You said Michelin star OP. Go to Clos Maggiore before it gets one then you can say "of course, we went there before it got it's stars". It's that good! Ideally you want a table in the conservatory, but it's not a deal breaker if you can't.

If you just want classic Italian not far from Grosvenor Square you could always go to Fino's in Mount Street.

I see the deed is done. Good choice, always been a happy experience there.

Should have read the whole bloody thread first!
