I have partaken of beers the world over, including many British varieties. Oddly, I have not had a Sam Smiths until tonight. It was one of their "Oatmeal Stouts". Unless it was on the draughts of some free houses in the 80s, I believe it is my first. I have to say I enjoyed it vaery much. Is this a popular choice in the U.K. or am I chasing different tastes?

Not had a Sam Smiths but had many by his uncle's firm, John Smiths.

Sam Adams is good.

Old Tadcaster seems to be the origin. Is Sam's second rate to John's? As to Sam Adams, those fellows do beer as a passion before a business, I am a huge fan. You likely don't have access to their specialty brands. I have been enjoying one of their seasonal brews, "Noble Pils".

Sam Smith's pubs are renowned for the quality and price of beer around here.
Good beer, Good prices and you can't go wrong really.

P.S. The Lager they serve is Ayinger brau. A quality lager that'll keep you refreshed,
Yet.
Try their Ayinger Brau Pills... Killer gear, We used to have 4 pints and we were well set for the night biggrin

Sam Smiths pubs are amongst my favourites in London, not only because their Alpine lager is £2.16 but also that the buildings are some of the finest around - see the Princess Louise in Holborn or the Cittie of Yorke just down the road towards Chancery Lane.

This kind fellow has maked all of the Sam Smiths pubs on Google maps:

Cheap. Lots of places charge more than that for a half. Some London types will probably be along to let me know a pint is over a fiver.

I remember when I was working in London in the 90s and we found a pub that did a pint for £1.50 when most others were getting on for double that.

So yes - £1.40 is a good price and Sam Smiths is a fine pint.

Try a Waggledance. It's beer made from honey and water and not much else.

Noble Pils is very good. I enjoyed a good few last week in Orlando.

I work opposite Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese on Fleet Street. One of my favourites.

I'm also partial to their Wheat Beer.
