There's always the possibility of renting a cottage somewhere which has a kitchen and doing our own masterchef courses...and peeps can always bring their own sleeping bags and stuff tongue out

Niiiice.

ETA: I've stayed [at a nice gaff near Carmarthen] before now and can vouch for the facilities.

The pictures really don't do it justice.

There's also a salmon (sewin) stream on the estate.

Edited to remove URL. PM me for details

OK, so do we go for the cottage and cook, or restaurant?
Bearing in mind the adage 'Too many cooks' etc etc.

I personally like the big country house idea. If we can't be arsed cooking, we can all head to a local boozer, I'm sure. The one MC identified looks bang-on.

Any preferences around timing?

Would love to but Wales and the M4 corridor is just too far away.

My pigs would miss me wink

Though I can vouch for Quality Cottages, when we lived in Wiltshire we used them a couple of times a year for getaways, they had some fantastic places on their books.

I would be happy not to cook and just eat smile

Perhaps if we got a nice wine list together, the ones who dont cook could bring a bottle or two off the list to make up for not cooking?

I'm more than happy to let Cactussed do the cooking smile

Or maybe we each do a dish.

I'd be up for either option, but preference for country house idea.

OK. How about a rough date?
MC said I'm not her type...

How does the first weekend in May suit everyone? ie 1/2 May?

The Country house that MC linked looks great...and sleeps 14.

Your suggestion for May Bank holiday weekend is fine for me.

I live just North of Bedford, and Wales is a bit of a trek but do-able smile

sounds good, another vote for cactussed as chef.

a non bank holiday weekend would be better imo (sorry mum, i can't come visit as i'm spending it with people i've never met) or one with a motoring event / car show nearby.

in addition the above, it'd also make my attendence more worthwhile as you're alll darn sarf.

having a look at octane reveals things thin on the ground until july though really (goodwood, silverstone classic, pageant of power, shelsley walsh).

Well, I was thinking if we're going to make the effort to get a place, might as well go for the long weekend? I was erring towards Wales, as we can possibly go for a hoon around the Evo triangle as well as eating and drinking?

Or maybe a round of golf or tennis? Plus, there's bound to be plenty of hiking / photo oppoertunities.

Failing that, would anyone be interested if I could arrange a car detailing class or somethng similar?

Or just blob out and/or cook?

It doesn't have to be that house either, I only suggested it because I've been there and know how nice it is.

I'm sure there must be others in a more 'central' location.
