Do you eat the skin?

I've been getting some strange looks for doing so, never thought it was odd!

quote from wiki - While the skin of kiwifruit is often removed before serving, it is completely edible.

and more - The kiwifruit skin is edible and contains high amounts of dietary fiber. In a fully matured kiwifruit one study showed that this as much as tripled the fiber content of the fruit. In addition, as many of the vitamins are stored immediately under the skin, leaving the skin intact greatly increases the vitamin c consumed by eating a single piece of kiwifruit when compared to eating it peeled. As with all fruit, it is recommended that if eating the skin, the fruit be washed prior to consumption.

My son tried this just yesterday (he's quite partial to a Kiwi or two) and the look on his face when he got some of the little furry bits on his tongue was hilarious.

Thankfully it didnt put him off eating it once we'd peeled it for him, but I said to the Mrs at the time 'you can eat the skin if you want to' - she looked at me like I was an idiot wobble

Something I discovered in New Zealand (and would otherwise never have thought of doing) is that the easiest way to eat them is to cut them in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon.

yes

They used to sell them at my school (early 90's) with a little green plastic spoon. The spoon had a serrated edge so that you could cut the top off and eat it like a boiled egg.

I never did though, just used to bite the stem off and eat the thing, skin and all smile

Well, I never have done. Always peel them - learn something new each day it seems...
