As a further sign of middle age and my continuing mid life crisis, I have decided that my life would be enriched if I owned a 'Thermos" type flask. It would enable me to imbibe hot tea during day trips and the like.

I would be grateful for any recommendations. I like products with a quality feel and it needs only to hold a good size mug full of tea.

Daughters are on standby to purchase the flask for Father's Day.

Thanks in advance.

I must admit I use the ones from Tesco and they're absolutely great. With the money they save, they could treat their old dad to a pint?

Most disappointed you can't get nice tartan ones any more; they're all horrible stainless steel, designed for building sites by the looks of them.

They don't do vacuum flasks as far as I'm aware, and for the large part Sigg stuff is greatly overpriced imo.

Lifeventure vacuum flasks are pretty decent but pricey (15 quid), but really you can't go wrong with a Thermos. The ones you get at tesco aren't bad. Just make sure they're a proper vacuum flasks and not glass etc.

Siggs are no way overpriced! I bought two when I went for an expedition in the Himalayas. They are light-weight but strong. They withstood being slammed on rocks, thrown around, extreme heat and extreme cold. The main selling point for me was the coating. Anti-bacterial and tastes of nothing. Didn't wash it once the whole time I was in the Himalayas and never once did I get ill from it. Really very good. thumbup

I'd go for a stainless steel one. Wide neck if poss, that way you can use it for more than just
fluids.

One important thing, go for one with a screw cap, not one of the cheapies which has a kind of push button in the top .

Sainsbury's used to do one of the squat wide neck ones for under a tenner, 'cause I've got one, but dunno if they still do it.

No doubt they're good at what they do, I've a few myself and I sell some Sigg kit. But, there are loads of alternatives out there for less money that do the same job just as well smile By no means do I think they're rubbish! Seems I was wrong and they do indeed do vacuum flasks by the look of it, they didn't when I last checked. Shall get a few in to test their performance smile

They've just about walked every test I've seen them in, but I've yet to try one.

OK, apologies firstly to the Ray Mears types. My most testing outing is likely to be to visit some National Trust properties. No plans for a trans world expedition just yet.

So, i popped in to Tesco this afternoon and for the princely sum of £2.75 I am (or will be on father's Day) the proud owner of a brushed aluminium finish vacuum flask. Unfortunately, nothing was available in a tartan finish. My thoughts are that I could cover it in tartan sticky backed plastic or similar. Failing this I may just purchase a tartan blanket/rug for picnicing purposes and hope this provides the desired effect.

Is it just for tea - or will it also be storing some weak lemon drink?
