Vindaloo .... phew!
Discussion
The first time I tried some of this (at uni a good few years ago) it blew my head off.
More recently, I've really been getting into what I consider pretty spicy food so last night, I decided to opt for a lamb vindaloo from the local ruby house.
Christ it was hot. But here's the thing, it was also pretty enjoyable. It wasn't too spicy that all flavour disappears behind a wall of fire.
I'm not one that goes in for dick swinging contests where curries are concerned, and I certainly wouldn't have it every time we go for an Indian but it's definitely something I'll have again.

Lamb Tikka Vindaloo, with a side order of plain yoghurt (dahi) is one of life's greatest pleasures.
It's definitely something worth attempting at home, the recipes I have tried vary greatly from traditional Portuguese pork based to lamb or chicken thigh (both on and off the bone).
Perhaps something to think about for GFaW 2?

Got to love a good vindaloo that's done properly so that you can actually taste the spices, garlic and vinegar!
I won't buy it out now for fear of getting a naff one, but love making it at home (and have managed to do a toned down version for the mrs so she can now enjoy it too).
Recipe please!I won't buy it out now for fear of getting a naff one, but love making it at home (and have managed to do a toned down version for the mrs so she can now enjoy it too).

Is what you get on the local "Indian" restaurant a proper Vindaloo, or just curry with an extra pinch of powder?
I've long thought that most 'curry houses' have perhaps two or three basic sauces on the go, to which they then add chillies and other stuff to make what you've ordered. Mobile Chicane said:
