Brick Lane - which restaurants curry favour with you?
Discussion
Hullo,
A group of us are heading over to Brick Lane next week but, even though we've all lived in London for years, not one of us has ever been out for a curry there.
So, any recommendations? Being such a popular area (a la China Town) I imagine there's some real rotters dotted amongst the gems so we'd want to avoid those

The ones where you look in and think, blimey, that looks a bit basic are the best.
I totally agree, first time I went there I was taken to this onewww.muhibindiancuisine.co.uk/
which compared to some of the others looked like some dodgy old cafe from the outside. The food was superb and I always went back to the same one. Haven't been for a while now so don't know if it's still as good.

There's one with blue formica trestle tables and paper table cloths.
That's the fella.

Brick lane for good food..... You have to be joking ! Its crap. If you think its good then you have no idea of good Indian food,
Its a friday night piss up place.
Great post, so constructive. Its a friday night piss up place.
If you're gonna diss the guy's ideas FFS post an alternative.
OP, I've been to the Shampan many times and never had a bad meal, although it was featured on a TV documentary about dirty kitchens recently...still, I like to challenge my immune system and I'm sure it's no different from any of the other rat-infested stholes in the Lane.

I don't particularly like Brick Lane either. There's a fab Indian restaurant not far from there -
Herb & Spice Restaurant
11a Whites Row
London
E1 7NF
A real hidden gem, the food is superb. It is quite small, though they have knocked through into next door and extended the place its worth booking if there's a group.

if you want cheap basic but ok-ish food, go to the Nazrul. It will cost you a tenner on the set menu for a starter, main and side, which is about standard. They dont mind large groups of lads going in there.
If you want something a little bit better, go to the place in Osborn Street which has the large tea pot in the window. Will cost you about 15 quid a head odd off the set menu. Ive been there about 5 or 6 times but cant remember the name of the bloody place..

Brick lane is not INDIAN. Its a dump selling cheap nasty meat in rather unclean kitchens etc
Lahore on Commercial Road is worth a visit . Not Pure INdian , but excellent and not pricy and you can hold your head up with pride that you never ate in Brick lane !!
