Been thinking about this as well. Mrs Motco likes non-stick but very few induction suitable pans are non-stick for some reason. Judge makes a range of such pans, though, and we bought an example of their 16cm non-stick induction suitable pans in a hardware shop called 'Essentials' in Hazlemere near High Wycombe. Of course if you're in, say, Grimsby, that won't help!

Try Cookware Online

John Lewis sells a couple of similar ranges from other sources but for rather more money. If you want plain pans though, there's a lot of choice.

Circulon from Amazon looks good value!

If you want stainless anything from the German Brands Fissler or WMF (their proffeesinal series is great) will do you nicely, if you prefer cast iron the usual suspects like Le Creuset work well, too
up to your preference

But very expensive options, though.

The one item I would push the boat out on would be an SKK saute pan & lid - we use ours all the time as it's so versatile.

For the rest we bought a decent stainless pan set from I can't remember where, tbh.

We recently bought a Hahn saucepan (http://www.hahncookware.co.uk/page895/home.aspx). Seems to be very good - nice heavy construction and decent handles and lids. Not very expensive either.

My parents recently bought Circulon (could be that set above actually) from John lewis and are very happy with it. I'm finding it hard to get used to, not being able to swish the pan about etc.

I toured the likes of Debenhams loking at shiny over-priced pots and pans with little pictures of TV chefs on them. Then I went to Homebase and bought a small saucepan, medium saucepan and frying pan/casserole dish for £25 the lot, all s/s. Work perfectly!

Anything s/s will work, it doesn't have to have to have 'Maurice Sabatier Jr' written on it.

I agree- everything with a steel core will work and above options are not cheap - however they are better value for money, then anything with a celebrity name written on it and you will have them all longer than your next car, so its money well spend
The difference is seldom in the pan it is how heavy and airtight the lids are for steaming and slow cooking, if the handles and bolts stay on and do not get hot and weather the bottom and the lids stay straight over years
Also watch for spring and auttum auctions of above brands with makor retailers - I got a decent fissler set for less then 200 qiud....

Mine also have glass lids so I can see what the contents are doing and they simmering at 2.5 rather than 7. Very useful.

Oddly, potatoes simmer at 3.5 while rice simmers at 2.5. Funny stuff, rice. One joule too many and it's out quicker than a cat going to the vets.
