We are looking to buy one of the above so that we can make ourselves smoothies, milkshakes and the like but we're a bit confused as to which do what? From a quick google they all seem pretty much the same to me or am I missing something?

So, can anyone point us in the right direction as to what we should be buying and also recommend a make and model? If there is one of them that can be used for other things, then even better. We're not going to spend stupid money so extra points for cheapness and current bargains. Thanks people smile

Buy a blender. At least 800w output, heavy duty glass jug and capable of blending ice. It will do the job fine for years, be easy to clean and make great stuff.

i would recommend kenwood fp920- currently £92 on amazon and a great bit of kit. Will do all the smoothy stuff you need with glass jug etc. And also has loads of processor, mixer, juicer and cutting functions as well. It does pretty much everything.

Cookworks Signature blender. Glass jug, stainless steel blades, 700W and 5 speeds, though I have only ever needed to use the 2 slowest. I use it everyday (sometimes twice a day) to make milkshakes and it will crush and smoothly blend ice cubes and also bigger chunks of ice I have made in containers.

£24.99 from Argos. You can of course spend a lot more and get a better looking one with a more impressive name, but it won't do a better job.

We've got a Waring Pro - stainless base, glass jug, big engine, two speeds - simple but brilliantly effective...

Waring would have been my recommendation before Blendtec came along.

Thanks for all the replies. Our internet was jaked this morning so headed out without checking and wandered into Currys, who had nothing to choose from, then into Argos and noticed the Cookworks Signature blender at a cheap £25 with a glass jug and 700w motor, the most powerful of all of them up to about £40 - £50. Thought to check thread responses on the mobile and lo, the very same was recommended by Mr. Redtwin. Bought it on the spot as it does everything we wanted and is exactly what we were looking for. Looking forward to banana milkshakes now! smile Thanks again everyone. Pint for Mr. Redtwin please barman.

I've been searching locally for something suitable for <EUR100, but as I'm in Blighty next week, I guess I can manage to "sneak in" to an Argos ... I'll put my hood up.

I am forced to agree, purely for the fact that one of those can blend an Ipad

mmmm time to make boozy milkshakes smile

1/2 a banana, peanut butter, a triple measure of Monkey Shoulder whisky, kahlua, milk and vanilla ice cream blitzed together and served on ice cubes...yum!
