I'm in Sheffield so pretty much anywhere sells it - all the supermarkets stock it.

If you wanted to risk it being sent through the post i'd be more than happy to give it ago.

Mine was on slow and by the time i got home at about 17:00 it had been on for 9 hours - it was bubbling away nicely.

I've done pulled pork in mine on low and left for a similar length of time - it was stil delicious.

There are quite a few recipes that I have in a couple of books that specify 12 hour cook times - i think one of them is a 23 hour one!

But all i've done is bought a timer to stick between plug and socket - then the cooker will turn on when you specify - so you can use it to cook meals for anythign from an hour up to 10 hours or whatever you need.

Only a couple of quid to purchase.

Problem solved.

I think ours was 11 quid from ASDA, two temp settings, and that's it you don't really need much else.

I don't think they really come with that many fancy settings?

I've stopped browning anything before I put it in the slow cooker - I'm sure it might make a tiny little bit of difference somewhere but i'm buggered if I can tell.

A grotty cut of cheap beef
Pearl barley
two tins of chopped tomatoes - i like the asda ones that come in garlic & herb, and chilli.
Glass of red wine
Spuds
Carrots
Celery
Garlic

8 hours or so should do.

Serve in a massive Yorkshire pudding with some crusty bread.

Just put this stew in to sit overnight.

Will turn itself on about 10:00 tomorrow morning to be ready for 7pm ish.

It smells good now.... Can't wait to come home to it tomorrow evening.

Cold weather forecast too!! Perfect.

Usual chicken curry recipe is done on the hob, takes a couple of hours to be really good....

On Sunday I require a decent chicken curry but i'm out all day...... Best recipes?

Needs to be spicy but not stupidly hot - the missus will tolerate some heat but not too much.

Just cleared my plate at my sisters, bought her a slow cooker as a house warming gift a few weeks ago.

She's knocked us up some really lovely stewy beef in a chilli infused gravy and some gorgeous mustard mash.

Perfect food for this first wintery cold day.

I don't.

I don't pre cook anything before I put it in.

I've tried browning, frying etc and really can't discern any difference.

Maybe I'm a heathen.

Mines been on since 3 this morning.
As it has
Smelt amazing this morning, cooking in a largeporntube of us splash of red wine, garlic salt and rosemary.

Gonna give it another hour and stick it in thes as oven for ten minutes.

Roasties, mash, yorkshire pudds currently in progress.

Luckily there's only two of us as it's shrunk a hell of a lot.

For the pulled pork recipe would a nasty, cheapo, Sainsburys 'basics' pork shoulder joint work ok?

Also - setting up a beef stew tonight for tomorrows grub. How long would afficionados put this on for on low?

Best ways to thicken it if it comes out a bit wet?
I usually use a morrisons joint for the shoulder not a super cheap one but always comes out good. Can't see cheap meat being an issue.

Beef stew i'll usually tick on for at least 8 hours.

Bit watery? - stir in a little bit of plain flour - gave up on cornflour.

Wow 5 years ince I started this thread.

We still have the same slow cooker, still in regular use - particularly over the winter.
