I nipped to the shop just a few moments ago and I was really hungry and so ended up buying a packet of what I thought were crisps, which is unusual for me. The packet looks quite nice and it did stick out, which is the sole reason for my purchase. This is what I bought (this is the actual packet): It was all going so well, I was hungry and I had a large packet of crisps. They are actually vegetables, not proper crisps, but I was hungry so didn't care. I then opened the packet and: Where have all my f king (veg)crisps gone? I can see there are some in there but f k me, I think I might have to put on my driving glasses to actually see them. w kers. I bought this packet because it looked good, I don't have time to read it, the colours were nice and I knew it contained food. I was so disgusted I folded the packet to see how small it really needed to be: f king look at that!! I wouldn't have even noticed that on a shelf. The till woman even pulled a face when I asked for a carrier bag (I had more stuff). If I had known they pack their (veg)crisps in this way I would have literally spat in her face for doing that. Bunch of s. I feel violated. I can also taste nothing but parsnips.

2/10 for frankly being too disintrested and rather archaic, its 2011, packaging rules.
And I think you'll find the store had little to do with packing the crisps..

Meh, Crisp packets have been half (or less) full for years. Obviously as you dont really eat them, its news to you.
I do agree its ridiculous though.

I love root vegetable crisps. I tend to make my own though as wary of buying shop sold bags due to the infectious mites that are prevalent and survive on the vegetables.

All crisps are like this? Really? I've had multi-pack crisps a while ago and they weren't.
I paid with cash and so threw the receipt in the bin as I walked out. I don't think I want to know how much they cost.

Mostly so, from what i've found. Walkers normal ones are the worst normally. Wotsits are normally okay.
I think its so the air prevents the product being totally fecked by the time you get it. A built in jiffy bag if you will.

Gretchen said: crisps...infectious mites...survive on the vegetables. Aren't most crisps made by throwing the sliced veg/potatoes into BOILING OIL? Surely nothing is going to survive that, and if anything does then it deserves a little munch on the finished product.

Many products are sold by weight.
If it says '50g' then it must weigh AT LEAST 50g. So most makers use 'e50g' which means 'AVERAGE 50g'. That way they can put 48g in and get away with it if picked up by Trading Standards.
The size of the bag is largely irrelevant and usually there to fool the punter into thinking they're getting more than they are. So whilst you feel robbed, it's a case of buying more carefully next time.

Ones that can survive long enough in boiling oil for vegetables to fry to a crisp of course. Do try to keep up!
