Hmmm, bored so I've been browsing places on PH I've not been to for a while

Saw this & thought I could have a go for my dinner tonight, seeing as just about all I have in the fridge is cheese, marscapone, feta, goats, cheddar, cheshire, parmesan and red leicester smile

Shall have a read of previous competitions and see if I can find the full rules smile

Nice to see you taking part Ali. smile

Nothing to it really.

We tend to limit the photos to 3.

Its supposed to be one course but you're not limited beyond that. A lunch, a starter, a pudding, a table of tapas, whatever.

Describe the dish a bit showing how you've included the nominated ingredient(s).

We tend not to vote for our own dishes when the poll comes around.

Get your entry in by midnight tomorrow!

My effort.

Not my best looking dish. But nice.

Chicken breast stuffed with smoked cheddar, spinach and lemon on a cider and cream sauce. Served with deep-fried risotto patties (with parmesan) and a mini gruyere and asparagus quiche on spinach and peas.

The little quiche thing was a step too far, as I tried to get as much fecking cheese on the plate as possible. But the deep-fried risotto and the smoked cheese and spinach stuffing was great.

Nettle and feta cheese filo pie

Yeah, nettles. The awful 'stingers' you were pushed into by bullies as a child (or at least I was).

However nettles make a lovely grassy, herby, and moreover - free - substitute for spinach in something like a Greek spanakopita. Feta cheese offers the creamy, salty counterpoint.

Here's my take on the subject:

Ingredients:

Work in progress:

Results:

Accompanied by a token salad of tomatoes and spring onion, with an olive oil and apple balsamic vinegar dressing.

I'll get zero for presentation, but then I didn't have anything to put with it hehe

I found some bacon, 1/2 onion & 3 eggs to go with the cheese - I just used the Feta, Marscapone & Cheddar

Tasted okay, a little rich, ie I needed salad and about 1/2 of it laugh I ate it cold but then I prefer Frittata cold wink I'm impressed, but only because its the first time I've managed to make one that doesn't looks like scrambled eggs biggrin

bugger, didn't see this until now.

made a lovely baked camembert with thyme and garlic for lunch yesterday, eaten with a pain rustique from carrefour.

can you imagine what that looks like? of course you can. ergo my entry for the competition is valid biggrin

I didn't fancy a cheese fest this weekend so have not entered but with those ingredients and replace the onion with a leek and add creme fraiche.

Cook the leek and bacon, transfer to a shallow oven dish. Sprinkle over the three cheeses, whisk the eggs and creme fraiche, season and pour over the top. Bake for 15-18 minutes until puffed and golden.

Thats what I would have done for the competition. Still would not have looked good but tasty.

Wasn't sure what to do with this one, but ended up making stilton, pear and walnut Tartlets.

Ingredients:

Tarts Cooked:

Served with some of our home made apple, apricot and pear chutney and a bit of green stuff:

In truth, it wasn't as nice as I thought it was going to be, the stilton flavour didn't really come through as much as I thought it would!

Bugger. Thouf=ght it was closing today.

Fell asleep after too much cheese yeasterday and a busy weekend.

Here's my entry anyway.

Ingredients. Gryere, Emmental, garlic and Kirsch. + French bread stuff.

Made bread. (Can't fit a baguette in my oven.) and grated the cheese.

Cooked off garlic in a bit of olive oil. Add a glass of kirsch and a glass of white wine. Stir in the cheese slowly.

Swiss Fondue.

With extra stringy bits.

Too late but you stil can't beat a simplistic fondue. Yummy.

10/10 for effort. That bread alone looks superb.

Lovely. I think you've nailed it in terms of cheese being the star of the show rather than a member of the supporting cast.

Great fondue set too - mit Edelweiss - and also 'proper' glasses. Hope you had Swiss / German wine with it!

Thanks. Got the set almost 20 years ago in Grindelwald.

Unfortunately I was limited on the wine choice, but it was from a Northern Italian region, so very close.

bounce the ingredients are as per the picture Tom

I stirred the eggs lightly with a knife & some ground pepper
Turned the grill on
lightly fried the onions & bacon till cooked
sprinkled the cheese over the top & melted the cheddar & marscapome
Added the eggs as you would for an omelet & cooked
The put some more feta on the top & grilled until golden brown

Its better cold, it's quite mushy when hot, but firms up nicely once cold
