In preparation for seeing the great Roger McGuinn of Byrds fame, next Tuesday, I have been listening to 60 years of his music. A couple of covers that I have particularly enjoyed are 1) Bob Dylan's "The Times they are a changin" recorded at a live concert in Spain, and 2) George Harrison's "If I needed someone" from Rubber Soul. The interesting thing about "If I Needed Someone" is that George sent Roger a post card telling him that his guitar riffs on "The Bells of Rymney" inspired him to write the song using the exact same riffs for the opening. McGuinn's version is similar to the Beatles' version, but McGuinn's jangly12 string Rickenbacker is just so good.

Iron Maiden have been using this song for quite sometime as the music that is played just before they come on stage.

Oh, not a slightly up-tempo version of the Thompson Twins song, then. Opening bit sounds a bit like "Strange Little Girl".

ABBA songs seem to lend themselves to rock covers quite nicely...

Any cover of any The Who song, to be honest. I often wonder what their various studio engineers used for ears back in the day as their production is so tinny and lightweight for what should be great rock music.

Ever wondered what it would sound like if Pendulum did a Taylor Swift tune?

Well wonder no more...

Prefer it over the original but I'm hardly a Swifty so YMMV smile

It's the go to song for one of the best cover version, but there is a reason.
(IMO Obviously)
