another vote for

Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt by Trent Reznor / Nine inch Nails.

After hearing Cash's version, Trent said that Hurt wasnt his song anymore.

So do I. And in a similar vein, the Bauhaus cover of "Ziggy Stardust" was good too.

I can't stop myself mentioning the Stranglers magnificent cover of "Walk on by" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wynfnKBHR8 ) and to a certain extent "96 Tears".

Gary Moore cover of Free's 'Wishing Well'. https://youtu.be/0qKkKHJ1weo

Springsteen's 'Because the night' https://youtu.be/i8JcWD1rHVo. (OK, he wrote it, but he wrote it for Patti Smith)

If you're considering Elvis, surely ZZ Top's version of Viva Las Vegas has to be in there.
