The Beatles - I Saw Her Standing There
Cover by The Tubes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmRazUrLUNk
Love the Tubes, and that album is just great.

"we're white punks on dope....." whistle
Mom and dad moved to Hollywood
Hang myself when I get enough rope

I'm with you on that, the Tubes shocked many, they were different
Can't clean up, though I know I should.

As a teenager in the 70s, White Punks On Dope was the must play song at any house party. The 12" single with Don't Touch Me There and What Do You Want From Life on the B side.

On the 12" single, it, fades out for about 30 secs, and everyone would keep singing thru the silence. The trick was, when the song faded back in again, to be in exactly the right place. Not easy after an evening of raiding the host's parents' drinks cabinet. Happy days.

New to this thread so didn't check every page to see if this had been posted before, but I do love a good cover version.

Kelly Jones covering The Foo's The Best of You is a great cover!

Has anyone yet mentioned Hurt?

Cash remade it so well trent said its not my song anymore. That is was recorded in hia dying months only makes the words more poignant
Still prefer the NIN version especially the live version on Further Down The Spiral.

Been listening to UB40's Labour Of Love superb cover album probably enjoy most over the originals.
I'll put forward a NIN cover of Gary Numan's Metal...
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=...

I like the original, but this version is a bit fuller, harder hitting and generally better. I seem to remember that Gary Numan sang it with NIN once live on tour.

I'm in full Tom Petty mood all this week after seeing them again at Hyde Park on Sunday.

Very, very, very difficult to beat any Fleetwood Mac tune with a cover, but they come close second. Hard guitar to copy but Mike Campbell is the closest I have ever heard to Greenie. In fact, Mike is my number one guitarist now.

Original, live.

I have never heard the 12" version, I have missed out on this, the trick sounds good fun
Don't Touch Me There is a big favourite of mine and I play it often, "The Smell Of Burning Leather As We Hold Eachother Tight" is of great depth and always puts a smile on my face

I know what you mean, I get where you're coming from, Big Country with Stuart Adamson were not to be missed and this cover is very very good, I am a Lou Reed lover through and through and still hurting about his death, perhaps I will appreciate this cover more in the future

This is a classic cover
Like you I am big into The Heartbreakers and regard Mike Campbell as one of the best, doesn't he make it look easy
I have the DVD of their 30th anniversary tour performance at Gainsville Florida, "You Wreck Me" has been hammered and Mike Campbell is so good playing this
I am out of touch with UK concerts since leaving the country several years ago, how good where they? I would have been at that concert if living in the UK and have just Googled to find out Hyde Park was a one off and the band won't be performing throughout Europe, I am gutted, I envy you

Still playing Tom Petty!

Just been going through (playing) my collection, now on the 90s LP Greatest Hits. Get to last track and blimey, forgotten this one: 'Something in the Air' (the old 1969 Thunderclap Newman that made No. 1 in July and stayed at the top for 3 weeks, for all those old enough to remember it.

Just listened to both and I'm giving it to TP because very few have covered this record - had a google and only Fish have done it and a girl group I've never heard of, but neither are close to a 'better than original'.

Note all Thunderclap Newman are now passed on, with keyboard piano player Andy 'Thunderclap' Newman dying last year.
Little Jimmy McCulloch (who went on to play for McCartney's Wings for a while) didn't live too long, drugs again, not even reaching the 27 Club.

I 'almost' prefer the intro of Thunderclap Newman, but that's nostalgia kicking in.
But overall TP wins this. They are just sooo bloody good.
