Thanks to the Kanye thread and the link to the BoRhap parody - Im now reminding myself what real singers sound like, i.e... Fred, Montserrat & Barcelona.

Jonathen Woss was on Radio 2 the other week and someone picked 3 songs after 3pm. He picked Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs and Take That, three of the most wanted in 'Crimes Against Music'

Buckingham Nicks, Polydor album they made before joining Fleetwood Mac. A couple of great tracks on there. Frozen Love is right up there with the best Fleetwood Mac tracks!

Car boot find this morning, Germ Free Adolescents by X Ray Spex. With lyric inner sleeve. Album cover is a bit worn but the LP itself is mint. Paid £2, a few on Ebay from £25-£50.

Poly-Styrene could sure belt out a tune. RIP.

X Ray Spex were wonderful. I still have my copy of that album and the Germ Free Adolescents single on vinyl. The B side of the single was "Age" which also appeared on her solo album Translucence, which I picked up in a boot sale about 15 years ago and is pretty good.

I've really enjoyed listening to the album. I'd forgotten what a great track Identity was. I'm not sure why I never bought the LP back in the day, probably didn't have enough pocket money! I've got the Dayglo and Oh Bondage singles, and I saw X Ray Spex live at the Hammersmith Odeon in about 77/78. Have a feeling John Cooper Clarke appeared as support.

I never even knew Poly released a solo album. I heard she caught religion and when to live in some Hari Krishna commune or some such nonsense. Shame. She was a real character. And then of course bloody cancer got her.

Identity was the song that first brought them to my attention. I think this was the video
on TOTP that did it.

It's actually quite moving watching that. So young and vibrant and full of life.

One of the great joys of youtube is the ability to watch people take a crack at cover versions. Evidently some are good, others terrible, but the best always come from musicians putting their own imprint an a song and producing something different to the original.

I'm a sucker for the AV Undercover series and would cite these three as examples of pleasant suprises.

My golden rule for a cover version, if you're going to do it, do it different.
Grace Jones is a master of this, so many fabulous cover versions. Here's he in her pomp doing Love Is The Drug.
