You're welcome. All the pretentious crap that I had thought about Prince disappeared the day that I watched that dvd.

He was awesome on the guitar, and occasionally you can just catch a smile and a nod at the other members of The Band.

The best Prince footage I've ever seen. 3:30 in.

I was sad to hear about Bowie, but this one has hit me harder.

Well - like you, this has completely transformed my opinion. I could very suddenly get quite gushy here. But that is sublime. There are some fabulous guitarists in the world - you might pick Carlos Santana for what he can do to one note, or maybe Joe Satriana for the height of what Zappa called "noodling".....

...but my breath is taken away by that chappie there on a Telecaster. Reminds me of when I discovered Tony Peluso: you never really saw that greatness - then someone was kind enough to point it out!!

Thank you , my life is indeed a little bit richer... bow... which I mean "most sincerely" folks.

Let's celebrate Ray - and wouldn't Jim be pleased?

Actually - I think Robbie wrote this one but.....

I'm sorry to go on a bit.... when Prince was releasing Purple Rain I was at school doing A Levels, and right into REM, Heart, The Vapors, XTC, Mariilion, even Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty anything but Prince.

The only thing I liked about Prince were the the filthylovely ladies in his videos.

There were massive fights going on about whether New Order were better than Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Jethro Tull were the ultimate underground, and in the other corner of the sixth form common room were a crowd that only listend to AC/DC - Whitesnake - Rush.

In another corner there were the KIm Wilde and Blondie fans. Oh and The Stranglers.

No one really listened to Prince.

Then about five years ago, I got caught up in a lock in a rural Ireland pub. The landlord put on 'The Last Walz' DVD (strangely I'd actually bought it for him). So there we both are, smashed to smithereens watching this DVD at 5am and holy f**k '"IS THAT PRINCE"??? hehe

K12beano, you're absolutely right, isn't it great when you find some thing you never knew about and then think 'Holy crap... that is good'.

(Last time it happened to me was the Leftfield Leftism album)

But what a loss tonight, and well said by you for your life being a little richer for hearing this stuff.

I'm taking Little Ex over to the UK this summer just purely for him to see The Levellers. In my opinion one of the best live bands still going. If Prince had been playing there too, it would have been wonderful.

(I really want to see Tom Petty live too)

biggrin

Tonight I am re exploring the New Wave of British Heavy metal (Hey we cant all be Prince fans, although I do/did respect his talent and ability).

So if you want things a bit fast loud and guitary, I present the dead exotic Tygers of Pan Tang (from Whitely Bay of all places!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1o3huTAcGE

I think I will be trawling Amazon for a copy of the album later.
