Just this...

Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne and others -- While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Bit dusty here... cry
Ooo- dear. Might need to prepare myself for that one!

thumbup
You're welcome. All the pretentious crap that I had thought about Prince disappeared the day that I watched that dvd.

He was awesome on the guitar, and occasionally you can just catch a smile and a nod at the other members of The Band.

The best Prince footage I've ever seen. 3:30 in.

I was sad to hear about Bowie, but this one has hit me harder.

frown
Well - like you, this has completely transformed my opinion. I could very suddenly get quite gushy here. But that is sublime. There are some fabulous guitarists in the world - you might pick Carlos Santana for what he can do to one note, or maybe Joe Satriana for the height of what Zappa called "noodling".....

...but my breath is taken away by that chappie there on a Telecaster. Reminds me of when I discovered Tony Peluso: you never really saw that greatness - then someone was kind enough to point it out!!

Thank you , my life is indeed a little bit richer... bow... which I mean "most sincerely" folks.
I'm sorry to go on a bit.... when Prince was releasing Purple Rain I was at school doing A Levels, and right into REM, Heart, The Vapors, XTC, Mariilion, even Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty anything but Prince.

The only thing I liked about Prince were the the filthylovely ladies in his videos.

There were massive fights going on about whether New Order were better than Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Jethro Tull were the ultimate underground, and in the other corner of the sixth form common room were a crowd that only listend to AC/DC - Whitesnake - Rush.

In another corner there were the KIm Wilde and Blondie fans. Oh and The Stranglers.

No one really listened to Prince.

Then about five years ago, I got caught up in a lock in a rural Ireland pub. The landlord put on 'The Last Walz' DVD (strangely I'd actually bought it for him). So there we both are, smashed to smithereens watching this DVD at 5am and holy f**k '"IS THAT PRINCE"??? hehe

K12beano, you're absolutely right, isn't it great when you find some thing you never knew about and then think 'Holy crap... that is good'.

(Last time it happened to me was the Leftfield Leftism album)

But what a loss tonight, and well said by you for your life being a little richer for hearing this stuff.

I'm taking Little Ex over to the UK this summer just purely for him to see The Levellers. In my opinion one of the best live bands still going. If Prince had been playing there too, it would have been wonderful.

(I really want to see Tom Petty live too)

biggrin
Tom Petty and the HB's 40th anniversary this year. I'm not missing it if he/they make the trip over here again. Get better with age.
Just love Mike Campbell, such an underrated guitarist - perhaps it's an age thing? Same age here.
Same with Fleetwood Mac, you never know now if their gigs will be the last ones.

I'm in among the students here in 1980, didn't even have to pay. Perks, eh! Mind you it was peanuts anyway.
The whole concert used to be on YouTube, but some sods have cut it.
Still, at least Refugee is still on there.
View it before it's taken down.

leona lewis- run

okay many years ago in the olden days when jo whiley was on radio 1 with the live lounge, this is one of the few songs that blew me away.. closely followed by elbows one day like this (which while typing this just came up next on the shuffle)

If music be the food of love...

THEN PLAY ON

Nah, not Shakespeare, Fleetwood Mac!

The Mac's 3rd studio album, I was 19 when I bought this, same age as Danny Kirwan - one of, if not the, best vibrato guitar players, ever.
I've been playing the Reprise black cover LP, not the later one with the mural of a nude guy on a horse, which I have as well.

Listening to the LP has reminded me of this - the Madge Sessions 2. A couple of minutes showcasing the talent of Green and Kirwan.

I'm still working my way through the Beautiful Days festival line up.

Got to skatatones.

If you are into dub/ska it's a nice tune, not too impressed by the vocals though. Loving the sax so definitely worth a dance at a festival smile
