They reformed thia year, have released a greatest hits CD and have been touring the States for most of the year!
Oh have they? I'm so out of touch. Mind you Chris Cornell seems to have lost it (vocally and stylistically) so I'm not sure this is good news.

This thread reminds me of the Simpsons episode when Homer meets the (?) hypnotherapist who claims to have "got Paul McCartney out of Wings". Homer replies: "You idiot: he was the best one!".

Gutted if they don't, would fly anywhere in the world to see them live.
What's the deal with Dire Straits then? Have they all fallen out or just that Knopfler wants to do other things? I was listening to some live tracks of theirs the other day and wondering if they would tour again.
Mark, in interviews, says he has no interest in reforming. He didn't enjoy the level of fame they had, the huge gigs they played at, it all got too big. He's happier doing the more personal stuff.

If Dire Straits reformed it would be too big.

Doesn't seem to have been any fallout, just Mark isn't interested because they're too famous, and he seems to more or less feel, probably accurately, that Dire Straits was Mark Knopfler and Friends anyway so he gets on just as well with a stool to sit on (I think he has back problems as well), session musicians, and an audience right there in front of him.
Have now decided that since the Straits are unlikely to reform I might as well go see Mark on a tour where he's confirmed that he'll play a number of Straits tracks.

I've bought a VIP ticket for one of his shows at the Albert Hall in May next year, flying back especially..... hope it's a good show!

The Stone Roses

I don't think Ian Brown and John Squire would be able to put their differences behind them, and I don't think Ian appears to be money motivated so I can't see it happening.

I have to say I saw them with this line-up a few times and although I'm not sure I'd want to see them now it must be a dream come true for many.

I saw Dire Straits a couple of times back in the day (free tickets the second time). Both times were like watching paint dry; flat, can't be arsed performances. And I'm a fan of their recorded stuff too...

I'm not surprised that he gave it up if this was the best that they could muster live.

Strange isn't it... I much prefer their live stuff, Alchemy is a cracking album and the DVD shows that have been released have been good to watch too.... I'm not so fond of the studio stuff, I always thought they needed audience presence to shine.

Ah well, it was cheaper than flying to Vegas to see Garth Brooks so I'll just keep my fingers crossed!

The Stranglers.

Although I much enjoy the current line-up (and the previous post-Cornwell line-ups, to be fair) there's too much bad blood between messrs Cornwell and Burnel for them to get back together. Mk4 is touring in March though, good.

(For the completists I am overlooking the fact that the first line-up contained the late Hans Warmling as it doesn't really count).

I was just reading this and thinking OE Stranglers line up. Wished I had chance to see them in the day.

One hit wonders???? 3 singles in the Top 50 and a Top 10 album. Awesome live band who sowed the seeds of the modern big-screen multimedia gig.

I have to concur with this. I drove from Surrey to the NEC to see them on the 'On Every Street' tour. Mate and I were really excited. Having played Alchemy to death I thought we'd be in for a real treat.

Well. How disappointing. A tape deck on the stage playing tracks would have had more presence. It was awful. They just couldn't be arsed.

Very poor.

Music is all about opinion and you are entitled to yours, but I'm glad I saw them when music was fun rather than Elbow, Coldplay, The Killers, Red Hot Chilli Peppers...ad nauseum, yawn. smile
If you think music is all about power, energy and having a good time I'll fondly remember The Ramones, Clash, Buzzcocks, Damned, 'Tones, Ruts, Queen, Lizzy and yes, SSS being feet away rather than watching the Kaiser Chiefs or Keane from the 40th row of a seated O2!! laugh
