I was just reading this and thinking OE Stranglers line up. Wished I had chance to see them in the day.
To be fair, my opinion is that they're a better live act now than they were at the end of the Mk1 line-up, you only have to compare a recent live DVD with the recording of the final Mk1 gig to see they've got more energy now. Although I didn't see them until 1983 I've enjoyed every gig.

For me though, it was ALL about the first two albums.... Cant imagine seeing them without Hugh.

Classic Genesis with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett?

Probably unlikely with Gabriel doing other things and Phil Collins having to tape the drum sticks to his fingers.

The Sisters Of Mercy.

First And Last And Always line-up.

A quite seismically acrimonious split at the time IIRC between Messrs Eldritch and Hussey.

Have now decided that since the Straits are unlikely to reform I might as well go see Mark on a tour where he's confirmed that he'll play a number of Straits tracks.

I've bought a VIP ticket for one of his shows at the Albert Hall in May next year, flying back especially..... hope it's a good show!
I saw Dire Straits a couple of times back in the day (free tickets the second time). Both times were like watching paint dry; flat, can't be arsed performances. And I'm a fan of their recorded stuff too...

I'm not surprised that he gave it up if this was the best that they could muster live.
Strange isn't it... I much prefer their live stuff, Alchemy is a cracking album and the DVD shows that have been released have been good to watch too.... I'm not so fond of the studio stuff, I always thought they needed audience presence to shine.

Ah well, it was cheaper than flying to Vegas to see Garth Brooks so I'll just keep my fingers crossed!
The 'On The Night' CD/DVD is totally awesome. The best version of Romeo and Juliet, and probably others too. A Dire Straits tour would be totally immense, and Mark doesn't like that scale of thing so much, which ironically means it'd be even more immense... I guess that's how it is with things you can't have!

Six Of The Best!
Did you make it to that cold wet day in October 82 at Miton Keynes Bowl to help out WOMAD?

I doubt it. Rick Wright died in 2008...biggrin
But in the end he was only a paid session musician, thanks to Mr Gilmour and Mr Waters plotting.
Indeed that was the case for a while but I understood that following Roger Waters departure he was reinstated as a member of the band.

Audioslave and Soundgarden now.

RATM seems extremely unlikely. Glad I've seen them a few times.
