Funnily enough I've just started listening to this as my brother (who tends to appreciate new and talented music more than I) recommended it. I'm more of an AC/DC or Motley Crue man myself It's good, doubt I'll ever class it as Epic quite yet but there's still time
Do quite like this track:

Suede, Dog Man Star.
A slightly overblown opus in parts but it's chock full of emotion, turmoil, drama & stunning tunes. Tensions between Brett, Bernard reached critical mass during the recording of the album & I can imagine Butler wringing the neck of his trusty ES355 on the songs here. It's an album that flows perfectly I think, stunning opener "We Are The Pigs" & ends with the 9 minute "The Asphalt World".
The Afghan Whigs, Gentlemen.
An absolute corker from start to finish. An album that should never be played at low volume. Elements of all kinds of genres in here, grunge, alt rock (Sonic Youth/Pavement), Motown...fantastic lyrically and even better musically. It's in my all time Top 10 & still gets played to death after nearly 20 years.

And this, ladies and gents, is how you describe epic albums, not by a puny list.A slightly overblown opus in parts but it's chock full of emotion, turmoil, drama & stunning tunes. Nor mine, though the single 'Tightrope' is very good.http://youtu.be/pwnefUaKCbc
She's brilliant live and does a stunning rendition of the Jackson 5 hit 'I want you back'.

Robert Johnson - The complete recordings. Blues.
Called the "king of the delta blues" who famously "sold his soul to the devil" Johnson was quite possibly not unique at the time, but he did record his music and thus inspired many generations of artists to do the same. Its a cornerstone of modern music
Jimi Hendrix - Experience Hendrix. Blues/rock. There isn't much to add really. From the wah pedal induced wails of voodoo child to the more traditional blues of red house the mix of styles and influences Hendrix put in to his music was unlike anything anyone had ever heard, still is to my mind.
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds. 60s pop/rock. The album that the Beatles were allegedly in awe of. Brian Wilson opened everyones eyes to unorthodox instruments and arrangements. Many attribute the start of concept albums to Pet Sounds.
