Doors: Riders ont' Storm. Bonus that the intro uses fabulous sounding rain/thunder.

Television: Marquee Moon. Very useful to check your L/R separation with guitar starting on one side then 2nd guitar comes in the other.

Richard Hell & t'Voidoids: Blank Generation. Tack on an arrhythmical almost random sequence then ts' ts-t-ts on the hi-hat.

Ruts: In a Rut. Short descending run then blam. A Peelie favourite. Further sticks in my mind as I used it as part of sound checking the Noisy Roadshow. Borrowed some additional stuff for a bigger venue and blew a bass bin with it. Friend was not too worried as he'd put some 70W drivers with 180W amps!

Wishbone Ash: Blowin' Free. Just the guitar riff. Then joined by the rest of the band. Builds.

Montrose: Bad Motor Scooter. Guitar that sounds like a, well, a bad motor scooter smile

I was listening to Marquee Moon a couple of weeks ago, the first time for at least twenty years and I’d forgotten just how good it was. I think one of the band was shacked up with or married to Patti Smith for a while.

I like stuff across the board
Gotta Get You Into My Life
Love the feel of this…

Jefferson Starship: Jane… just left out of the radio when I was a kid

Fink: All Cried Out… the sort of cover I love, when someone moved it on. Takes it somewhere new.

Van Halen: Pound Cake. Eddie on it, great intro. Great song.

Autumn song by the Manics has a great opening, it's the best bit if the track by far; the remainder I'm far less fussed by.
I half agree. Opening is fantastic, get goosebumps when it comes on unexpectedly but I love the rest of it as well. Always thought I'll have it played at my funeral as the closing song.

Solway Firth - Slipknot. The switch from unsettling to unhinged at "...to not take care of YOU!!!!!!" is what makes this one.

I couldn’t quote a reference but I am sure I read once that the single snare drum stroke (played by Bobby Gregg) that opens Dylan’s Like A Rolling Stone, is the most recognised of all song intros.

I was 22 when it came out, and its one I remember well, someone gave me it me as "Check this out" and it put it on in the car, that small little intro than it kicks in and it was like Woah, this is huge!

Houses of the Holy - Led Zeppelin

History Repeating - The Propellerheads with Shirley Bassey

Chicane - Stoned in love with Tom Jones

Rush - Spirit of Radio

Enya - Caribbean Blue

And last of all, i know it's not much of an intro but the start of Cafe Del Mar by Energy 52 always flicks a switch in my head

Mein Teil (single Version) - Rammstein

Just the build, with the advert from the actual event and then it all kicks in, really really works well
