The Joy Formidible - The Big Roar

Simply incredible
Couldn't agree more!! Saw them live last Saturday!!! (on before the Foo's! - Dave Grohl love's them apparently)

WOW - WTF - why haven't I heard of them before??? - mega, mega, MEGA set....and the singer, Ritzy Bryan is gorgeous.........

I have now bought all of their Albums/EP's....

They are supporting Muse on the forthcoming tour.....and I am tempted to go along just to see them again! (Suspect they may be better than Muse.....unless Muse are playing older stuff...)

Great, isn't he?

Trouble is, although I love listening to his tracks - he also presents a slot on Planet Rock from his house in the US - and as much as I like him, he's not a great presenter, and his speaking voice is grating and annoying! biggrin

I like this thread
As someone of a 'certain age' who doesn't do 'you-tube-download-web-i-tunes' I listen to the radio .... Absolute mainly, Arrow and Planet, but only for limited periods (2 hours per eve and if I don't like what I'm hearing I put a CD on).
I thought I'd reached the end of the road for my new musical pleasure - but there's new food for thought here.

That you just can't stop listening to?

I just downloaded the new Fliptrix album and I can't get enough of THIS right now.
Some how it reminds of 'Mr Blue Sky'

I found John Hiatt last summer... now have all but 2 of his albums... hes been recording since 1974, and wrote before that.. and every album is a diffrent style... there isnt a bad one at all..

from this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7pSb8sgzFY
through this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im-ssehAPgQ
and his first song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTBWawHtWXA

was in a band with Ry cooder, Jim keltner, and Nick lowe, and made Sonny Landreth's career. amazing bloke

Also a new band called Shovels and Rope, who are tiny...

Two people, husband and wife, stripped out sound (thats the most stripped out it gets)
brilliant writers and singers, and small and personal.

Just great.

Poliça...if you can forgive the use if a vocoder & the auto tune thing, this bunch make a fine noise. "Wandering Star" is a great track. Can't really pigeon hole them or give you any references in their sound...it's electronica I guess, but they definitely have something about them.

Beach House...very minimalist, atmospheric & just downright lovely. "myth" is the one to listen to.

Love that they leave a bum note in the recording on that song.

Like the Black Keys too, but not heard too much before. from the links I found "Howlin' for you"-great song/film trailer. They should definitely make this film!

Not that new but Scroobius Pip's solo album is good(as well as his stuf with Dan le Sac)

Same, love Planet Rock anyway but now have 4 Bonamassa albums I'm slowly getting to grips with smile
I just heard the track Dust Bowl by Bonamassa and I like!

So obviously I will now be purchasing the album Dust Bowl.
But if I were to purchase another what would the recommendation be?
