It seems that the world and his dog is a DJ and producing mixes... along with being further removed from the clubbing scene, I have decided to concentrate on mixes that really interest me.

So first up is a Halloween themed mix – Terrible Trance. This was a lot of fun putting together, and it also showcases a stunning edit put together by two friends – the Energy 52 track I think is brilliant insanity.

I hope you enjoy nearly as much as I had putting it together!

Terrible Trance

Dark Matter ft Missing Jem – Devil In Disguise
Simon Blann – Halloween
Mark Norman – Phantom Manor (MARLO Rmx)
Brainbug – Nightmare (Sinister Strings Rmx)
Future Disciple – 28 Tracks Later
Svenson Gielen – Answer The Question (Retrospective Rmx)
Energy 52 – Cafe del Maaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh (Marco V Rmx / Deadstar Deadit)
DJ Choose – Release Me
DJ Choose – Saw Blade
Mark Young & Derek Jones – Dust Til Dawn
DJ Choose – Fake Behaviour

I just knew this would have to have Brainbug - Nightmare in it! biggrin I've not actually heard that for years.

Looks a flippin' good tracklisting, will definately be giving this a listen this afternoon, cheers Don!

Ah yeah sorry I forgot to get back to you, (these threads disappear so quickly off the front of the music forum on here that you come back after a couple of days and its all change!)

Anyway, flippin' love it chap! I've never heard that Mark Norman track - Phantom Manor before, but it is bloody awesome. I'm also REALLY digging the Energy 52 remix- it's got shades of Marco V's 'Automanual'. Is it an offical release by any chance? I'd love to get my hands on it!

Anyways, another top mix and it's certainly got the Halloween vibe well and truly covered! biggrin

Oh and cheers for introducing me to the works of DJ Choose, I can't say I'd stumbled across any of his stuff before but I've been going through listening to loads of his tracks since you put this mix up and I am liking!- it's very reminiscent of a lot of the old Tidy releases that blurred the lines between hard trance & hard house- i.e. right up my street! biggrin

Hehe - glad you liked it. Phantom Manor is an old track, and when trying to digitise my collection I came across this remix of it. The 'Answer the Question' track is a complete bh to mix - made me remember just how hard seamlessly mixing old stuff is.

As for DJ Choose - it's too hard for me normally, but I saw the names and I couldn't resist... hehe

And the Energy 52 track - I'll ask for a copy from the friends who did it, and see if I can share. I currently just have the CD.

To be fair the mixing was tight as hell, certainly no complaints there! Did you say you use CDJ1000s? (Trying to remember from my other trance mix thread!) If so do you still mix purely cds?

I like a lot of the harder stuff, but then my taste in dance music is a pretty broad canvas... For example the last mix I put online was mostly current electro-house stuff, but I've spent the last week digitising a few more of my old hard house favourites to put another hard house mix together, all the while listening to a lot of Hed Kandi's online mixes whilst at work, whilst preparing to play a classic trance pre-party on Saturday! (And all that says nothing of my rather large techno, tech-house, and happy hardcore collections!) hehe

That was partly the reason I asked if you still played CDs, I always feel I'm fighting a losing battle trying to keep on top of tracks, although I guess it's not so bad if you're mainly playing 1 or 2 genres.

Oh, and if there was any chance of that Energy 52 remix that would be great, I'll happily paypal for a CD version if needs be, I wouldn't want the creators to be out of pocket smile

Just noticed that track you said was a pain to mix was Svenson & Gielen- that's rather random as me & a mate were having a mix a couple of weeks ago when he had all his old trance vinyl round here, one of the tracks that we are both a MASSIVE fan of but both agreed is an absolute pain to mix (the intro has a really weired off-beat) was 'Beauty of Silence' by none other than Svenson & Gielen...

Looks like they've obviously made a habit of it! hehe

I play on CDJ 1000Mk2's, and occasionally use my PDX2000 vinyl. All goes through a Xone92.

You got a gig? Good man - they are coming harder and harder to come by. I might play out more if I get closer to civilisation again... Depends how it goes really!

And yes, some producers enjoy making things a little bit difficult, or they can only get used if you are good!

I wouldn't quite call it a gig- it's the pre-party to my own birthday celebrations! hehe My mates thought it would be good to have an afternoon gathering round ours (I have a dj 'booth' & decent sound system built into the lounge), with me & my mate (who also uses PDX2000mk2s incidently) playing a few hours of the finest early 2000s trance that we all got into during sixth-form before going out in the evening...

There will be around 25-30 people there so I guess technically it'll be the biggest audience I've played to! whistle

Closer to civilisation? Where are you based currently then Don?!

HA - quality! Well at least you'll be able to have a laugh.

I live about 1.5hrs from London via Train - far too difficult to pop in, and a ball-ache to drive it. I'm also far removed from any town that would use a DJ in a bar. The new place should be a lot easier.

It was ruined for me by Judge Jules - he once sampled the entire build-up, and just before the track broke, brought it straight back to the beginning. Nine times in a row. Talk about sucking the energy out of the place...

hehe

He certainly does love that track, but 9 times! yikes

Saturday's 'party' went swimmingly- 2 hours of house/electro, 3 hours of classic trance, followed by an hour of old school happy hardcore- and then we all went out and everyone got me rather drunk! rotate

Everyone enjoyed it and it's definately given me the taste for playing to more than just a few people.
