Too true, probably my all time favourite musician.

His book about his life, 'Things the Grandchildren Should Know' is excellent; well written and very revealing. It's also worth mentioning the documentary 'Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives' that followed him as he researched the life of his quantum physicist father. Well worth a watch by anyone who hasn't seen it!
I read this book thanks to your recommendation, really enjoyed it. Thanks for that smile

Pedant mode - the band is Eels, not The Eels.

As you were.

I don't know much about Eels, other than Novocaine For The Soul.

What CD should I buy (yes, I still like physical music) to dip my toe into Eels water so to speak, on the basis of if I didn't like it, Eels aren't for me?

I always thought 'Daisys' was their best album but they've all got something about them.....

The new album is out today (6th April) -- it's good with the same mixture of melancholy and some upbeat songs.

Listening to it now on Spotify. Strangely the melancholy aspects seem strangely uplifting, but this is what I get from all his albums, it's such great music.

The album by the way is called The Deconstruction - will definitely be buying it.

This is a great album, glad its relatively short.... there are bits bit that sounds like almost every Eels era on here. Think all Eels fans will be more than happy with it and a good one for a newbie to start with.

I've only had the chance to play it once...the jury is still out. Funnily enough, the only other song other than Novocaine, that I recognised, was Susan's House. So the whole Eel catalogue has somehow passed me by unnoticed.

I need to find time to sit down with it and give it a proper listen, before I decide. I'm sure the band members are waiting nervously for my verdict! hehe
