Indeed. What's the point of only having 5 frets? Is it a clever wheeze to ensure that no-one will be able to test them out by playing Stairway to Heaven or Hotel California*?

*Other cliched overplayed 70's rock songs are available

They have their uses for drilling techniques or chord sequences, good if you are in a tour bus or at a airport I suppose.

I'm sure the Jason Becker special one had more frets though, but cant seem to find it, the site with it on wont load.

Had a play one of these yesterday:

with one of these:

Was quite impressed with the amp actually, very nice tone and the ISF tone switching that means you can switch between American and British voicing was a pretty nifty feature. I must admit the guitar was rather sexy as well, would be nicer without the massive Opeth logo behind the bridge though (I love Opeth but I'm not really a fan of overtly showy signature models)

HT5's are awesome amps, very loud, stick a 4x12 and you are getting some serious sound!

They do quite a nifty 4 x 8 cab to match actually, either that or I'd nab an old Marshall 4 x 12 off of the Bay of Fleas

I didn't see that on their site,

Pretty cool little thing, the 4x12 is quite a bit more money as well about 460, although that's 100 cheaper than the equivalent Orange.

The Fender Classic Series 50's Stratocaster seems like a good bet. Most shops seem to be selling them for around £400! Mexican made, so I wouldn't expect Japanese quality, but the proficiency of Fender's non-Japanese overseas teams has really improved over the years.

In my experience, anything MiM will have nice woods, be reasonably well finished & come with crappy hardware & electrics.

Cracking guitars. The pickups and pots are more than passable for a while and cheap to replace, with hundreds of options on the market. I never felt the urge to change mine when I owned an MiM strat, but when I got a Japanese YJM strat the pickups were in another league entirely.

I really want one of these

Even just for knocking out a few licks from Steve Vai's "I would love to", but tbh my current K-7 is probably better suited to the job. Still, doesn't stop me from wanting one.

Would love one, but I'm out. I've really bust the bank this past week on guitars.

Wonderful guitars, these Classic Series 50s. I had a go in the Daphne Blue one a month or so ago. The Soft V neck is again a highlight in these. The vintage trem is ok for gentle vibratos, pickups give you all the classic strat sounds, didn't try it with a lot of drive but the pickups are very vintage voiced so imagine very vintage sounding...only reason I didn't take home one of these is the frets are vintage sized and I guess the radius is a bit too vintagy for me as well. The perfect radii for me would be a 7.25" to 9.5" or 10" compound radius neck. I guess I'm gonna have to go for a custom shop!...One day!

My only concern is, if I bought one, would I just end up wishing I'd bought a CIJ Yngwie strat instead?
