I have every LP and single they have ever released - one of the best ever bands the UK have ever had - shame that Miles Copeland fecked 'em up - also shame that Andy Powell is making a big deal also - Martin Turner is an absolutely top bloke
Will be at Greystones, Sheff when they are in my parish

Apart from on Yoooootoooooobe - anyone seen the latest WA lineup? The “new boy” looks a bit awesome.
Yep. Saw them back end of last year at the Brook. They were significantly better than the year before.Apart from on Yoooootoooooobe - anyone seen the latest WA lineup? The “new boy” looks a bit awesome.

Wow. I saw them - about 30 years ago. I can't even remember whether I liked them!
Almost 20 years too late. Best line up(s) were the original band (although Laurie Wisefield taking over from the great Ted Turner did not dimish the band at all - Laure was and still is a great guitarist and all the albums with him are top notch).
Saw them loads of times from their beginnings in the 70s. I had both their first albums and my girlfriend at the time knew I wanted their new forthcoming lp Argus so I didn't buy it (just in case she got it for me ).
She had just returned from Italy with girl pal of hers. I got wind that she had bought it for me. I was a little more than blowing free more rather blown away! When I put it on she was singing along and knew every bloody word to every song on it! It had been played to death!
Sounds magazine gave it 'Album of the Year' and rightly so.
I must have forgiven her because we got married two years later just after Wisefield took over from Turner (Ted). Two other great albums came out in that period Wishbone Four and There's The Rub with 'that' track FUBB (fk up beyond belief)
Locked In followed (the album that nobody liked, I didn't mind it at all), but then came far better albums, New England followed by Front Page News.
I still have the programme for when I saw them at Hammersmith Odeon on their New England Tour in 76.
Continued to follow and watch them for some years, up till 1980. Until I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in Oxford in March that year and my allegiance changed overnight!
I have actually been and watched both WA incarnations since the splits. I have to say I preferred Martin Turner's group over Andy Powell's. But for me the acrimony between the pair of them ruined it.

Have to agree on your Wisefield comment. He fitted in seamlessly, IMO. There's The Rub is still one of my favourite albums; Silver Shoes is timeless. And I liked Locked In too! Half Past Lovin'...
Well I cannot believe how good they seem to be all these years later - I haven't seen them live for a couple of years (Muddy - and before that a few times with Ben, Mark Birch etc)
But "New Boy" is like an amalgam of Ben/Ted/Laurie in all the best way - Well oiled machines wish they ran like this:

Just reminiscing with a friend who went with me to the Marquee in 83 for the Wishbone Ash 25th Anniversary and they played songs from the probably the rarest of WA LPs, Twin Barrels Burning.
The late Trevor Bolder (ex Uriah Heep, Bowie etc) was playing bass.
One of my favourites on Twin Barrels was 'No more lonely nights' (not the Paul McCartney song!) but Laurie Wisefield's.

I sold my vinyl copy of Twin Barrels about 10 years ago for silly money.
My friend just said didn't I know that Twin Barrels Burning is not only being re-released next month (2 Feb), but it's remixed and includes the USA version tracks and bonus tracks (the USA LP had a different cover).
At £10.95 I might just get that!

For a bit of nostalgia, The Old Grey Whistle Test 1971 and Jail Bait! Those bay city roller trousers of Andy Powell.

I’ll just add this - in case fellow Ashers haven’t found it yet:

(Wish we could hear that Fender a bit better on “Faith...”)

Always been one of my favourite bands, despite the fact that I don't even like rock music very much.

Time for a thread resurrection.
Not that I’m keen or anything, but.....
Just booked to see them two, if not actually three, times next weekend!
Going to ASHCON day and eve plus then following them over to Stamford next Saturday and Sunday!
Just looking up support, Félix Rabin, who looks pretty amazing too.

I've seen them a few times over the years, and more recently at Holmfirth. The Holmfirth Picturedrome is a tiny venue - max c.500 people. Great atmosphere, no stage-front bouncers, very friendly. I've just looked and see WA are playing there on November 16. People should go if they can, it's amazing seeing bands that used to be massive playing at such small gigs - but WA haven't lost any of their musical skill - they were superb last time I saw them in Holmfirth.
First saw them in 1974, just after Ted left and turned all weird in the wilds of Peru.
Andy Powell is a brilliant guitarist, but doesn't seem to have a good word to say about any of his original bandmates.
Martin Turner is God and can do no wrong as far as I am concerned.
Both of their books are well worth reading. Make your own mind up.
