David Ford @ Union Chapel tonight. Who? Britain's best largely unknown acoustic singer-songwriter.

Back from seeing Hollywood Undead at the O2 in Birmingham last night. I'm not really a fan but my boys were desperate to go - have to say though that I thought they were excellent and the crowd was mental. Support act was Icon for Hire and they were pretty good too.
Bit too bloody loud though. I came out thinking I had burst an eardrum as my left ear had a buzz which sounded like a broken car speaker but this morning it's just whistling quietly so fingers crossed it's all ok. I'm too old for this st.

Simian Mobile Disco at Brighton Dome on Friday, modular synthesisers and projections sounds like more or less perfect gig to me.
Should certainly contrast with Damon Albarn who I saw at the Albert Hall a couple of weeks ago who was absolutely outstanding, best I've ever seen him in any of his guises.
Waiting to decide gig of the year though until I see The Cure for the umpteenth time on 23 Dec, be a close run thing with Mogwai I think.

Was starting to think of the same. I have a ticket for the same Cure gig, but Bob will have to go some to top the last ever Carter USM gig.Well its coming to the end of the year, I've been to my last gig of the year, decided I'd have a quick review of the concerts I've been too:
January-
Fun Loving Criminals- first time i've seen them, they dont mess about, just play what you want to hear, great gig. 8/10
We were promised jet packs- seen them loads now, was a promo type thing for the hard rock cafe opening in glasgow, short set, was good (and free!). 7/10
March-
We are scientists- got a last minute left over ticket, was alright, too much banter with the crowd, but the music was good. 7/10
april-
manic street preachers- great gig, first time seeing them, played what I wanted with a few new tracks thrown in. 8/10
June-
Jurassic 5- seen them similar time last year, cracking hip hop gig. they put on a bit of a show, lots of audience participation, even took requests and played some random tracks. great gig. 8/10
July-
Jamie T- first gig back after 3 or 4 years at a tiny little venue. had some new tracks, was pretty underwelming to be fair, just seemed rusty, didnt engage with me. i'm a huge fan, seen him loads now, but probably the poorest show. 5/10
October-
John Newman- wasnt sure what to expect, some pretty decent pop stuff, good gig. 7/10
Black stone cherry- hadnt heard much of them before, played a venue far too big for them, lost any impact. very average. 5/10
November-
Slash + Biffy- MTV Europe awards were in glasgow, was lucky enough to score free tickets to this small gig. both played over an hours set, banged out the big hits, absolutely epic gig. biffy were awesome, tore through their set, then slash picked up where they left off and cranked it up again, properly turned it up to 11. amazing gig- 11/10!!!
Jamie t- he released his new album earlier this year, much better gig than earlier in the year too. 7/10
The pretty reckless- pretty poor gig. played for just about an hour, strung her encore out for 15/20mins, including a dubstep type drum solo thing for at least 10minutes of that encore. was a bit if a guilty pleasure gig. wouldnt bother again though 4/10
December-
Slash- was playing a much bigger venue than i've seen him in before. great gig. love the sound of myles kennedys voice on a lot of the tracks, the GnR covers are awesome. was also a day out for my mates birthday with lots of beer involved. 9/10!!
Biffy clyro- they done 3 nights at the barrowlands, playing songs from 2 albums each night (including B-sides). no support band, just a 30 track set list, i went on the last ngiht. was a great gig to finish the year on. played lots of stuff i hadnt heard before. was a bit of a 'super fan' gig, but great gig. 8/10
easily the stand out highlight was biffy and slash, me and friends ended up getting 4 tickets, had an awesome night and the bands just rocked.
I went to quite a few gigs this year, was planning on not going to as many next year, however i've already got tickets for 3 gigs...... Idlewild, Foo Fighters and U2. could be another busy year.
how was everyone else gig year??

Saxon regret to inform UK fans that the remaining tour dates have been postponed due to Nigel Glocker’s health issues. The drummer was rushed to hospital on Monday night; more details will follow as soon as available.
Biff Byford says: “Devastating news that our friend and drummer Nigel has been taken ill. We have to postpone all shows until we find out more. He has been taken to hospital in Newcastle. All our thoughts are with Nigel and his family.”
The UK dates were due to be the culmination of 38-date European tour “Warriors of the Road” celebrating their 35th Anniversary. The set list featured tracks from what is known to the fans as 'The Holy Trinity' - Saxon's seminal albums Wheels of Steel, Strong Arm of the Law and Denim and Leather.

Toying with Whole Lotta Led as they are playing the local theatre Saturday night....
Mark, fancy coming down to Ruislip, on Friday 30th of Jan to see these guys? I'm up for it if you are http://www.tropicatruislip.co.uk/bands/hatsofftole...
Currently suffering from severe post-gig depression after seeing Bombay Bicycle Club at the O2 Apollo in Manchester last night. I went to see them in March this year just after they released their new album. I loved that gig, but as the album was new I was quite unfamiliar with a few songs. After that though, I fell in love with the album and the band and just could not miss seeing them again. Amazing setlist. They played much more of their older stuff, a few acoustic songs and an amazing cover. The crowd were great, as were the lights/pyro. They're playing Earls Court on Saturday (last band to play there before it gets knocked down) and I'm envious of anyone going. Great support from Peace also, look forward to their new album next year.
