What music bits have you just bought?
Discussion
To even out all the guitarness in here I just bought new heads for my drums. Evans black chrome for the tom batter heads and G1 reso heads, Genera snare batter with a 300 reso and an emad2 for the bass drum. Don't think I'll ever got back to Remo heads. Not as fancy as all these guitars but it's a bit hard to buy and store drums willy nilly haha.

Borkfactor I've been meaning to buy some for myself, where did you get the strap locks from? I'll be interested to find out how the strings last. I change mine every two weeks or so (Ernie Ball Slinkies) as I find by then they're losing their tone and starting to look dull, even though I wipe them down after every time I play.
I just went to my local music shop (R&B Music in Aberdeen) and asked them to fit some good ones. They had gold ones in stock that matched the hardware and didn't charge for the fitting so I was happy with that. I will keep you updated on the strings, so far so good though. I have been an Ernie Ball user since day one (13 years or so ago!) so I know what you mean about them losing their tone and starting to look dull. I do mine once a month or so, but I rotate guitars throughout that time so it balances out.
The NY XLs are holding up well so far, still look and feel new, and more importantly still sound great.

Love the colour of your LP, is it Wine Red?
Thanks! They call it "Merlot" but yeah, it is wine red. I am very happy I went with this one over the sunburst one Just ordered myself an Adrian Smith signature Jackson San Dimas (USA):
I've been gassing for one for years, but finally justified it as a 30th birthday present to myself. Expecting delivery around October (I've waited over 6 months for a Music Man guitar before now so this one isn't too bad!).

Thanks for the feedback Borkfactor, I really must get a set of them for my LP. I hope the new strings work out better; I rotate between my LP and Tele at the moment (Strat is being refinished) so two weeks each set seems a bit short, though I do play a fair bit these days.
Framerateuk that's a great looking Jackson...I bought my Epiphone Les Paul for my 30th (it's now 18 years old),my JV Squier Strat for my 17th (don't want to count those years!) so I'm debating what guitar to get next year for the 5-0. I always think it's nice to treat yourself on these special occasions though, plus it makes it hard to think about trading them in if you get an itch for something else...kind of forces you to keep it and just buy another.

Birthdays must be the best excuse! I've kept most of my guitars over the years, but I have sold a few on that I never really clicked with. I can't see me getting rid of any of my current lot (I think this will be #11! Awch!). 3 of them are customs that I've built from parts and customised myself (or had someone paint) so they're worth a lot more to me than they would be to someone else.Would like a nice Les Paul or maybe a 335 style guitar at some point, I'm very much a superstrat player at the moment.
Just been and bought a Roland TD-15KV electronic kit, pick it up tomorrow as it wouldn't fit in my Z3. I went for the higher end version compared to the '11 series as I prefer the feel of the pads which seem much closer to an acoustic kit. The 15KV also comes with a high hat that is used on a proper high hat stand, so the change between playing an acoustic set and this one is minimised. I got a great deal on the extras I needed on top of the kit, including a bass drum pedal and a decent drum throne with a back rest (old man alert ).
Of course I started out looking at the <£600 models, but I always seem to end up buying something cheaper and regretting it/wanting to upgrade, so for once I'm buying what I'd really like (well, excluding the £5K+ TD-30KV).
I'll post back some pictures once I get it all set up, but this is a generic Roland studio photo for now:

I could have crept up to the TD30K at the same price as GAK, but since I started at the £500 TD4KP I thought I'd better stop at the TD15KV especially as I needed to add the bass drum pedal, throne and high hat stand on top.
I got mine at a local shop, Drumwright and their prices are the same as GAK's 'reduced' prices as standard, plus they did me a Tama bass pedal for £49 rrp £130, a half price high hat stand and a set of sticks thrown in. I like to use local places if I can and the amount of time the guy spent over three separate visits was reassuring.
Shop doesn't open until 12...I'm chomping at the bit already.
EDIT: Just looking at what the differences are with the '30 and buying the separate bits (better module/bass drum/pads/extra cymbal) to upgrade a 15 works out over 2k less whatever you'd get for the 15 bits sold on eBay/whatever. Definitely not a great upgrade path if that's what I want to end up with in the end.
I might ask if they'll change my order to the '30...

Went to pick up the TD15KV and came home with a TD30K. Had a good think about it before going back to the shop and the extra £1k buys a lot of extra bits that I felt were worthwhile. It isn't really practical to try to upgrade a '15 to a '30 later on, it would be cheaper to sell the '15 and buy a '30 really, so I thought that for once I'd push the boat right out.
Although there is a further model up which has more tom toms a further improved snare and high hat, there's nothing stopping me from upgrading the snare later and using my current one as an extra tom tom. The other differences between the 30K and 30KV aren't so critical to me anyway, so I doubt I'd need them, though I could add some upgrades if I really wanted to in future.
It's a bit bigger than the TD4/11 I was looking at originally, but TBH neither would really have fitted in one of the spare bedrooms which was the original plan, so I'll just need to work out the best way to break it down to pack away when not using it. At least in the winter I can set it up in the conservatory as we don't use it in winter (equally we don't really use the living room in the summer either, so I'll see how long I get away with leaving it there ).
Pictures or it didn't happen (no custard I'm afraid):

I'd like to have a play on one, because I was disappointed with the Charvel So Cal, and they look identical!

These V-Drums have now reached the point of being a serious rival to acoustic drum sets with the added advantage of a volume control . I bought a TD12KV several years ago (last generation equivalent to the TD15) as not being a drummer I couldn't justify the TD20 but it's still a great bit of kit with the real high hat stand and mesh heads.
That TD30 certainly stimulates the G.A.S with those large drum heads, you must be a very happy man!
Oh and I just bought one of these:

Thanks Driller, well happy with it all. I managed to connect it up to the AUX input on my guitar amp so we all had a go through the speaker rather than just headphones. Even the OH had a go too.
Is that a USB mixer/interface you've bought? I'm after a basic one just to be able to get some 8 track recordings off my old zip drive(!) Boss recorder into stereo so I can burn to CD. Rather like the drum kit I start off looking at a cheap option and read a few bad reviews and work my way up to something many times more expensive. If it's like I'm after I'll be interested to hear how you get on with it.
(I've had to stop drumming as my hands are sore...might get the guitar out since I'm not into football/World Cup).

Yes, plenty of people learn on them. They do 'feel' different to acoustic kits, but I think that the one I've got is as close as I can get in terms of feel (as I play an acoustic kit at our rehearsal room so I didn't want it to be too different).
The cheaper models like the one I was going to buy even has a tutor mode which helps train and scores how accurate you are in %. You can put a USB stick in the back with MP3 music on and play along with it too which is is also good to practice and learn, which is what I've been doing today. You can plug a laptop in as well, so I'm sure there must be other software that can help with learning too.

Forgive me for this, but knowing three fifths of not much about drumming, what do they feel like compared to a normal kit? Sorry, not sure if I'm using anything close to the right terminology.
I'm not the most experienced person to comment, since I'm only getting back into playing after a very long gap (25 years plus). It really does vary depending on what electronic kit you look at, as I've found I ended up going up the range to get some thing that feels/responds as close to an acoustic kit as is practical. Getting the sticks to bounce (and have a decent sized 'target' to aim at) plus the right feeling for your feet seems to be a large part of what you get going up the range for the more advanced models.
For me it's the snare pad mostly, which allows the sticks to bounce and picks up the subtle lighter beats/taps and even allows me to do drum rolls like my old marching snare drum. Also that the model I bought uses a proper high hat stand rather than a footswitch (which just didn't feel quite right to me), similar for the bass drum. The cymbals don't feel quite the same as metal, being plastic with rubber covering, but it's a compromise I can live with (and they aren't so different that playing the 'real thing' will feel odd). Maybe one day they'll find a way to further improve that side too.
I've played a more basic electronic kit at the 'rock school' I go to at a local college and those pads are like hitting a cushion...no bounce and very hard on the wrist. The footswitches are just on or off so you don't get the same response/feeling with your feel. It's quite a physical instrument,so (for me anyway) it's a lot about how it feels and reacts, so a simple switch seems a bit too 'easy' almost. I think going from one of those to an acoustic kit would be a big change.
In some ways it's a bit like changing what plectrum/strings you use on a guitar...it feels kind of similar, but off putting non the less and hard to swap between the two.
Hope that makes some sense...a few post purchase drinks might have clouded my posting...
