New Pink Floyd album due October?
Discussion
Enjoying the record, seems to grow with subsequent listens.
There are little snippets of wonderful, other bits don't work so well (the sax was a mistake).
My only gripe is that the sections are far too short, they have an idea, it's ace, but then changes after only a minute or two, they could have expanded the whole thing to twice its length and made it so much more powerful.
The ending a little sudden too, needed a bigger finish, just seems to stop.
That said, still one of the most interesting albums I've heard for a while, fantastic sound quality too.

I like it, too. I like that it is (in the main) instrumental, with the exception of the last / single track and a bit of Stephen Hawking.
However, immediately afterwards I played "The Division Bell" and it is abundantly clear that "The Endless River" is comprised of the bits from the mixing room floor that weren't deemed good enough to make the 1994 album.

No one ever say it is not exactly that. If you have the chance to see the promo on Sky news, they have made it absolutely clear that almost 100% of the album is made from "left over" material. A big chunk is from a jam session from 1993.However, immediately afterwards I played "The Division Bell" and it is abundantly clear that "The Endless River" is comprised of the bits from the mixing room floor that weren't deemed good enough to make the 1994 album.
First impressions - it's nice but that's about it. Great instrumentals, clean sound and quite uplifting. I suppose the harshest thing I can say is that you could put it on in the background at a dinner party. Not a patch on Dark Side or WYWH which really reward the listener.
Easy listening Pink Floyd style - 3/5 for me.

Incidentally does anyone have a copy of 'The Big Spliff'?
It was said at the time of TDB that there were about 90 hours worth of jam sessions recorded, some of which ended up on TER, however there was also supposed to be the big spliff bootleg that also contained recordings from these sessions, I'm uncertain as to whether that album is just a fully instrumental version of TER.
Regardless, it's not something I've ever been able to track down, does anyone here have it or more information on it?

Well after a long wait was it worth it First track sounded it was going to turn into welcome to the machine. Then it sounds as said before like lots of bits but never realy came together thought the sax when it started was going to be epic but then just stoped the vocal track is good but overall ???? After all the years have they no vocals left in them it's a pitty . Will have a beer and play again.

Have listened to it a couple of times now, and can clearly see where the tracks on this would have fitted in with the tracks on the Division Bell Album.
Think its good, not the best, and certainly not the worst. But it is what it is. Bits left over, and you can tell that they have not been developed into full tracks - Less than 2 minutes for a Floyd track, let alone several on one album, who would have thought that!!!

I like it a lot. Rick creates some beautiful musical landscapes for David to play around in.
I don't miss the vocals, especially when they are not Roger's lyrics, but are the lyrics, written by Mrs Gilmore, on the last, only, song a bit of a dig at Roger - that the music that they made after he left was better than his words...could be seeing as he dissed her efforts on The Division Bell?

Can you rewrite that with fewer commas please? I think I understand what you're saying but I'm not certain. RichB said:

Seriously though, I do do hope that it isn't a dig as that would be an unfitting end to a band that had more of it's fair share of bitterness. Because of the similarity to their earlier work - there are so many references to Wish You Were Here, Meddle, The Wall, Dark Side etc - it sounds like some old friends revisiting their glory days. For most bands of that generation that would often come off as naff and self indulgent, but PF have the class and panache to pull it off.
