Good CD but the cover is stupid. The CD does not fit on the rubbery bit they put in place of the usual plastic clip thing. Takes a lot of faffing around.
So it fails it's basic design brief!
Rubbish design...

Agreed about the rubbery bit, load of ste.

As for the CD, my first reaction wasn't favourable but after several listens it grew on me, apart from 'Anisina', which is horrible easy listening schlock.

I got this album for Xmas and was going to post my thoughts, then found this thread. Context: I first saw them live in 1977, performing Animals, and have seen them a further twice since. I own all the albums that I have wanted.

For me, this album was a big disappointment. Massively derivative; if you've ever listened to anything since, say, DSOTM, you would know who it was instantly. But not in a good way. They seem to have almost just copied various ideas, riff styles, etc - in fact some of it sounds as if it has been lifted straight from older work, although it's so unmemorable that I can't currently remember exactly which.

Was hoping for the swansong which they are not only capable of, but should have delivered, for themselves as much as for everyone else, but this is just a fizzle out. God forbid it was a cynical fizzle out, but I'm not yet completely convinced it wasn't, although the fan in me can't quite believe the guys would do that.

That's because it is. wink I assumed people know it's mostly outtakes from The Division bell sessions.

I think what I meant is, it's too obviously, and too lazily, lifted - rather than genuinely being "the bits you didn't hear".

I don't know, some of the bits are very much in the tone and style of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', and there are other bits that remind me of earlier albums.

It's not lifted from those, they were deliberately playing in that style to make you feel nostalgic.

yes To my mond, it's dead easy to pick out the stuff from the '90s sessions from the new stuff, Gilmour's style has clearly evolved over the years.

The production quality is totally different for a start, if they're taken snippets from the sessions for those classic albums it owuld be obvious. They could certainly play those old tracks live, they wouldn't be going out of their way to record some new bits in the classic style to illustrate the 'endless river' concept.

Regardless, I still think it's a good record.
