Because he wasn't that good? I've tried listening to him plenty of times over the years but just haven't clicked. Mind you I think Hendrix is over-hyped.
I think I need to arrange for a swarthy Mediterranean gentleman to come around for a discussion on the fitment of cement footware. I recently saw concert footage of Gary Moore doing a Hendix tribute and as good as Gary Moore was he didn't get anywhere near the stuff that Hendrix was doing. The catch is that Hendrix was so extrovert in his performances it is easy to be overwhelmed by that and miss the musicianship and the subtlety of some of his work. RG was very similar. I am not a huge blues fan but I loved his style. There were times when it sounded like there was a huge battle going on between guitar and guitarist over who had control but somehow it was always RG who won.
RG was a great player whether you like the music or not.
Fantastic Guitarist

I've heard no proof of that. Always thought his guitar work a little soulless.
How about this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjxhwNrhIgA
