Lots of Great stuff from Ritchie, Highway star (great build up) and Smoke on the Water (obvious reasons!)spring to mind.

NIB Black Sabbath is the definitive answer from me. Sabbath are the masters of the intro, Wizard, Snowblind, Heaven and Hell, Wheels of confusion (shame the rest of the song isn't more like it) Tony Rocks the intro, as he does everything.

Sleeps Dragonnaut is a good shout.

Red King Crimson, Actually Starless is fking ace. So is Matte Kudasai.

Jason Becker Altitudes is so pure emotive rock lead, Mables fatale fable is crazy 80s Floyd rose action and some rather tasty sweeps.

An intro that has always stuck with me is 'stargazer' by Rainbow .the album version with Cozy Powell banging away rather than the live versions where they arsed about with it.

Ah forgot to put that one down! How could I. Epic song. In the true sense of the word.

I think an alternative version has a synth intro, but I prefer just the drums. Cozy is insane, such a loss.

Seconded, and as usual with the Stones, the studio version was the best version.

Best ever? Well, we can all list dozens, but just one?

Has to be 'Shine on You, Crazy Diamond'.

An intro in more than one respect. I always loved the intro to the show The Equaliser and the best part of that is the musical intro.
