Theme from Kojak. Bass player? The wonderful Carol Kaye. Talk about serving the music.

No one listened yet?

When you listen to this and some of their other stuff too and check out the dates and time lines, surely VF were one of the bands that seeded half of the Seattle grunge scene?

Nirvana anyone? Big Black? Mudhoney? NoMeansNo? Jesus Lizard?

If nothing else try the song 'prove my love' about 19:09 in that link.

Yes- that is one amazing album -- I wore out my tape copy of it!

And of course - fab basslines

Yes and Chris squire have been mentioned before but when I first heard heart of the sunrise it persuaded me to add a Rick to my collection, couldn't find a vid of Chris playing the bass line on its own so this will do, love it

I saw Aston FMB mentioned earlier, but how about some Robbie Shakespeare; with his old mate Sly Dunbar on the drums?

Also love a bit of the Soul Syndicate Band [George Fullwood]

But if you've got a sound system....then the Roots Radics [Errol Holt] take some beating!

Just written an album of retro spy type stuff for Warner Bros. Used Chris Laurence on Dbl Bass. (If truth be told, I wrote it with him in mind). He is astonishingly good. This was his first take (with 18 other strings sitting in the same room).

I appreciate it's not what most in here listen to, but take it from me, this guy is on top of his game smile

Gordon Campell on Trombone.... another first take. Both reading.

Steve Price engineered. He's the best in the UK in most people's opinion. He just won anther Grammy for the Sam Smith album. It was also recorded in Angel One, which IMHO beats both Air and Abbey when it comes to getting a string sound (for sections under 30) - which is the other reason the strings sound so lush.

Real talent always shines through somehow, it just does. Although in my mind that is more a Humphrey Bogart / Sam Spade / Raymond Chandler classic hardboiled kinda sound. Double the potential royalties then biggrin
