John Entwistle - Wont get fooled again isolated bass live:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80dsyo2Ox-0

Its only watching this that you see the level of work that goes into the bass line in this song. Incredible.

And on the same theme, Moon's isolated drums from the same song (not recorded from the same take though I think).

I could listen to it all day long:

surprised at the lack of reggae in this thread.
;-)
(I'm putting the smilie early)

To be honest I thought the same. I love Reggae.

I was digging through the John Peel stuff and I came upon across "Kisses Sweeter than Wine" by Bongwater - a band I saw in Leeds live back in the 19s - (Folk Song by being a bigger favorite of mine), but then I came across the Jackson Browne version.

^^^ that's the one

You can pick up some Bongwater stuff on Youtube/Google; it's all good.

TL;DR
ARSE ARSE, crapping fk, I fell out with a great girl over Reggae - I thought it was st, she knew better.

Some old & new classics here - all great listening.
How about any early version of (Ike &) Tima Turner's Nutbush City limits e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBYcpvJnjJA ?
Bass riff comes in at 0:45.

Wow, Bongwater on Pistonheads! one of my favourite bands of the era, main man, Kramer, was in the Butthole Surfers for a bit early on and head of Shimmy Disc records, pretty much discovered and saved the life, by most accounts, of Daniel Johnston. Their "Power of Pussy" album is a absolute classic and includes the Weavers "Kisses Sweeter than wine" although the Peel session version with the AIDS intro was better as was the Peel version of White rental car blues.
One of my biggest regrets was not getting to their London Underworld show at the time.

I'm sure I posted some links to 'kisses' earlier but looking back it's not there. Are you Mr H. from Macclesfield?

The Smiths had some great basslines. Andy Rourke is criminally underrated .

Can't argue with that, unfortunately the moment Morrissey opens his gob I start twitching and get involuntary convulsions and have to turn it off.

This is quite noice [sic] though.... and a great tune.

Glen Cornick on Living in the Past is a beautifully crafted bass line.

...that and anything by the criminally under rated Bruce Thomas on the early Attractions stuff - as a budding young bass player (who never managed to master the instrument) the wandering bass track on 'Lipstick Vogue' used to blow my mind.

Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick by Norman Watt-Roy from The Blockheads.

I probably posted that back in 2015, but can't be arsed to check. Great bass line though.
