I'm surprised no one has mentioned Music for Chameleons, I know we have the whole Alan Partridge thing to get passed but it really is a brilliant line:

Great song, bloody annoying video though!

Taking a side step, I'm big into Rockabilly, while I doubt the double bass was in the mind of the OP this performance by Mark Winchester is pretty special. It's mostly about the wonderful Setzer of course but there aren't many who can slap like this:

Some good choices. Primus deserve a mention though.

Sitting here thinking bass players and I remembered Mick Karn from Japan who was well respected in my youth. This is an example although far from his best:

Then I saw on Wiki he died of cancer a few years ago. More bad news.

Probably one of his finest moments, even if it does sound like a rip off of the interlude of Stanley Clarke's 'School Days'. Mark's playing on 'Foundation and Empire' was also amazing.

Put Killers by Maiden on in the car yesterday - apart from being a superb album, the bassline intro to Killers is pretty good.

Since this about bass riffs as opposed to fantastic solos or virtuoso performers what about good old "Money" by the Floyd for an unforgettable and hard to drum to bass line.

Funny, I didn't see that stipulation on the thread? It just says 'favourite bass line'.

I absolutely love Billy Sheehan's at 02:30. What a player, perfect counterpoint to Paul Gilbert. The way that bottom string growls when he repeats the passage for the second time is monstrous. I've seen Billy live a few times with Steve Vai and he is an absolute wizard.
