Need help to work out the chords of a song
Discussion
I particularly like Luka Bloom's version of U2's Bad. You can hear it here

I get that it starts in E, then Emaj7, then it seems to imply E6, although that doesn't sound right. I'm pretty sure he's got the guitar tuned to a chord though I couldn't say which.
Any help would be appreciated
TIA

E A E B A
E Ab (the one you're missing) E B E B
E B A
E Bm B A
E A B etc etc...with Ab and Ab minor.
The chords you are missing are the Ab and the Ab minors, I suspect. They are pretty willy nilly.
Wiggle the pinky on and off and lift the third and pinky fingers now and then.
I suspect he may be tuned to DADF#AD and cappo'd 1.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the assistance, chaps. I'm not really following 25's suggestions but will continue experimenting with it, Justin's info I was able to do something with, and think I might get somewhere with it.
Maybe even if I don't get it exactly right I can come up with something that works equally well.

If I could have my time again I'd have asked for professional tutoring when I started out.
I can play guitar well enough, learning from tabs. However I know barely any theory, I know only a handful of basic chords and scales. I can't really pick things up by ear at all. All these things make me sad. Problem is, now I'm older I don''t have the time to do anything about it!
Sorry to derail the thread...

I am so glad I paid attention during music lessons at school, they were pretty boring, classical only but we were taught musical notation which has come in handy countless times over the years.
The rest I picked up by playing with musicians who really knew their stuff and were happy to pass on their knowledge.
I sometimes get caught out though when working out chord sequences because many really good songs don't follow conventional music theory which I suppose is what makes them memorable.
When I "cheat" and look on the net for song chords I find most are full of mistakes and you still need to listen hard to the recording to work out the correct sequences.
