The albums are so perfect that they are like jewels. Every tiny thing has been planned. Love them.

I've been in the biz for 35 years and have only met 3 people that IMHO properly understand harmony (I'm not one of them). I'm sure there were many that I didn't know well enough that did)... but when you listen to Fagen... you know he really gets it. I mean REALLY gets it. (Even though he always comes across as a bit of a plonker).

Many, many clips to illustrate but:

ETA... though he's the only pianist who's left hand becomes redundant during a solo! (5:30 in)

I kind of got force fed Steely Dan,no bad thing ! But Mid/late seventies in my elder brothers cars (Marcos 3000GT and Cortina 1600E) all 8-track. Tops 1. Haitian Divorce 2. Do It Again. 3. Show Biz Kids. Timeless.

Pop quiz.

Anyone know who the original drummer in an early version of the band was?

While we're on the subject.

Sigh.

A guy I know, big fan of the Dan, does reckon that Fagen and Becker are a pair of aholes.

Chevy Chase, although strictly speaking the band wasn't Steely Dan at that time.

Seen them 4 times over the years, first time was at the Rainbow in Finsbury Park in '74,still counts as one of the best gigs I've ever been to (and I've been to a few!) music
