for anyone who hasn't seen it, get it on iplayer now. fantastic documentary moving from city to city drinking in the inluences from the artists from there. I liked the Chicago show but the Washington d.c. one was absolutely fantastic. I grew up listening to minor threat, bad brains, rites of spring and all those dischord hardcore bands that were such a big influence on grohl.

i'd recommend this series to music fans in general, not just rock fans. fantastic watch.

I'll watch that tonight.

The Chicago one was excellent.

Dave Grohl comes over really well (again).

I think grohl is a genius. you can hear so much of what shaped him permeate through his music without sounding like he's ripped it off. i'm glad some of the more obscure stuff from bands like voivod have gained new interest from fans because of grohl's unashamed championing of what music influenced him greatly.
can't wait for episode 3!!

I was genuinely surprised how good the first two episodes were. Steve Albini is somewhat of a legend in my house and to hear Big Black and Shellac tracks played on what was basically a prime time show was a real treat.

The second episode knocked it out of the park, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Ian Mackaye......for a hardcore fan it was a real treat.

The only let down for me are actually the Foo Fighters tracks (as weird as that sounds seeing it's basically a showcase of their new album) but it all feels a bit tacked on at the end. But in all fairness, I started falling out with Foo Fighters stuff after seeing them on their last tour.

If you like this I would also suggest checking out the film "Sound City" that Dave Grohl put together, again he comes across as a big enthusiast for real music (as in not autotune etc).

The LA one was probably the best yet.

Plenty of Josh Homme, which is a good thing.

Indeed. Been obsessively playing Them Crooked Vultures recently and even started listening to Kyuss.

Only watched the first one so far not quite what I was expecting. Interesting, but more of a typical BBC4 music history documentary interspersed with a bit of Foo Fighters in the studio!

Dave Grohl - also brilliant at making documentaries: anything he does is becoming a must see.

Chicago was brilliant, also seen Washington now, which was both fascinating and exciting.

Coughed up my pocket money - I'm what might best be described as an "occasional" Nirvana/Foo Fighters fan.

But the album really comes alive for knowing that much more about it!

Great to see Gibby Haynes on mainstream tv! Well done Dave Grohl. Even starting to warm to Pat Smear...... ok maybe not got that far yet.

As great as these documentaries are and fascinating insight to local scenes it always ends on a sour note with MOR rock. For instance with the Nashville episode I was hoping for the Foos to try their hand with country rock.
